Job Summary: Under supervision while training and then in a solo capacity individual will operate a water treatment plant.
Water Plant Operator Trainee - $14.14 - $15.79
Water Plant Class I Operator - $14.79 - $16.53
Water Plant Class II Operator - $17.83 - $19.96
Water Plant Class III Operator - $19.36 - $21.67
Water Plant Class IV Operator - $ 21.53 – $24.12
Additional compensation reviewed on a case and case basis by experience in the industry.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Assists in checking equipment and motors to see that they are operating properly. Changes chlorine tanks and water flow, records the changes on charts as required. Assists in operating, oiling and adjusting power-driven water pumps and other equipment. Starts and stops pumps, regulates valves and observes flow dials, maintains operation of raw water pumps, finished water pumps, chemical feeders and filter levels. Performs repair and maintenance work on equipment. Assists in general plant maintenance. Assists in chemical tests. Keeps plant and grounds clean and orderly.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent (GED).
Ability to acquire appropriate certification as issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Valid Kentucky driver's license.
Some knowledge of the processes involved in the purification of water. Skill in the use and care of hand tools. Appreciation of the techniques and benefits of preventive maintenance. Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment in operation and to detect flaws and defects. Ability to feed quantify amounts registered on meters and charts accurately and to maintain records of shift operations. Ability to understand and to follow instructions.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; perform repetitive movements of hands or wrist; crouch crawl.
Physical criteria include:
The ability to lift 25/50/100 pounds regularly
The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
