Position Summary
The Overnight Custodian is a part-time, seasonal, hourly position, reporting to the Venue Facilities Manager (VFM). This role is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness within offices, dressing rooms, restrooms, and VIP areas after events, ensuring the venue is fully reset and show-ready by 8:00 AM. Shift hours are on event days (approximately 60 events from May through October), from 9pm - 5am.

We produce SummerStage, the iconic free, outdoor performing arts festival in NYC, presenting world-class artists from across the globe and our own neighborhoods on our mainstage in Central Park and in local parks in all five boroughs, and our Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre and roving PuppetMobile present marionette puppet theater throughout New York City.
We connect youngsters to nature in the urban environment through progressive, experiential teaching. Using parks as classrooms, we provide learning experiences and hands-on activities in urban forests, coastal areas, and gardens.
Free golf, tennis, track & field, soccer, and fitness programs bring high-quality instruction and equipment into areas where few organized athletic opportunities exist. We offer leveled training, year-round scholarship coaching, and special pro events.

Responsibilities
Custodian responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Venue Turnover and Reset:
- Prepare the venue for the next day by turning and resetting spaces used during events, ensuring they are restored to a pristine and organized condition
- Arrange seating areas, VIP sections, and other guest spaces according to venue specifications
- Trash and Waste Management:
- Collect and dispose of all trash and waste from the main venue field, VIP spaces, bleacher seats, offices, and dressing rooms
- Empty trash cans and recycling bins in public areas, offices, dressing rooms, and green rooms
- Ensure proper sorting and disposal of recyclable materials
- Cleaning and Sanitation:
- Clean and sanitize decks, offices, and common areas to maintain a hygienic and professional environment
- Deep clean dressing rooms, green rooms, and other backstage areas to provide a comfortable and clean space for performers and staff
- Maintain cleanliness of four office rooms, two crew rooms, five dressing rooms, and three VIP areas (Patio, Terrace & Member Deck), including any bathrooms associated with these areas
- Ensure internal surface cleanliness of 25-30 portable toilets within the venue
- Keep all bathrooms stocked with needed materials and supplies
- Detail-Oriented Maintenance:
- Conduct detailed cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting all areas of the venue
- Spot-clean walls, windows, and surfaces to remove smudges, fingerprints, and other marks
- Inspect and maintain cleanliness of bleacher seats and surrounding areas, ensuring they are guest-ready
- Rapid Response and Safety:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines for cleaning equipment and chemical usage
- Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or damages to the management team promptly
- Inventory and Supplies Management:
- Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and report needed items to the Venue Facilities Manager
- Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with the team of four custodians to complete tasks efficiently
- Communicate effectively with supervisors to ensure all areas meet the venue's cleanliness standards
- Minimum of two (2) years work experience as a custodian or janitor preferred
- Experience with physical work tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and wiping
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Extremely dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and organized
- Ability to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors, and in all types of weather
- Ability and willingness to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) as needed
- Ability and willingness to stand for extended periods of time, walk the length of the venue multiple times per shift, and occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Demonstrate good judgment and a professional demeanor
