Summary:
Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction plans for and monitors all K-12 curriculum development and implementation, using multiple data sources to guide the work. The Assistant Superintendent supervises the K-12 Instructional Supervisors as well as the Director of PE/Health/Athletics, and the Mentor Coordinator. The Assistant Superintendent has responsibility for Professional Development, and also plans the academic calendar. The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction is a full member of District Cabinet.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction include but are not limited to the following:
- Directs instructional curriculum and assessment services to meet students' need;
- Plan, implements and evaluates instructional programs with teacher and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques;
- Applies research and district studies to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process;
- Provides leaders with research based strategies to ensure academic achievement;
- Establishes district-wide Curriculum Committee to: Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis;
- Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting educational resources to meet student learning needs.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings, including student achievement data to examine curriculum/instructional program effectiveness;
- Facilitates the use of technology in the teaching-learning process;
- Provides extensive leadership and supervision for the high schools of the City School District of Albany;
- Facilitates the district-wide Professional Development Committee:
- Leadership in developing and implementing professional development for administrators and teachers to improve the teaching-learning process and to meet district goals;
- Assists, as appropriate, with the Professional Development Appraisal System;
- Provides effective staff development activities that support the goals and objectives of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from teaches and others;
- Plans the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of educational goals.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience: A Master's degree plus five years of classroom experience and previous administrative experience
