TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : The Board of Education, upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, shall appoint the Student Center Counselor. The annual period of service for the Student Center Counselor shall be 210 days.
PRIMARY FUNCTION :
It is the responsibility of the Student Center Counselor to work in collaboration and partnership, under the supervision of the Coordinator of Wraparound Services, to ensure that students have access and availability to services provided by the Decatur Student Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Other duties may be assigned.
- Under the guidance of the Coordinator of Wraparound Services, provides individual and group counseling, as well as other support services to prepare students academically, socially and emotionally for success in their current and post graduation endeavors.
- Maintains appropriate documentation via Infinite Campus. When appropriate, generates treatment plans and creates SOAP notes to track client progress.
- Uses proactive academic advising best practices to build relationships with students to support student success and retention.
- Collaborates with other administrators, counselors, therapists and advisors in a multi-disciplinary manner to identify and implement alternative accountability and disciplinary management programs.
- Helps to review and follow up with students regarding BARK alerts for level of severity and aid school counselors in monitoring student activity, checking in with students for safety planning and access to resources.
- Identifies and implements best practice models to support disenfranchised students through an equity lens.
- Under the direction of the Coordinator of Wraparound Services, fosters the success of students by assisting with the coordination of community services and growing school partnerships with community organizations.
- Coordinate and consult with outside professionals in order to provide continuity of care for students returning from hospitalization and / or with outside therapists seeing students regularly who may need on campus support.
- Attend weekly faculty meetings.
- Work with the school counseling department to manage DSC referrals, coordinate care, and work as a treatment team to ensure students have full level of support.
- Attend 504 meetings, re-entry meetings, and disciplinary meetings as appropriate, to ensure social emotional support.
- On call for mental health crises and support of students, staff, and community members.
- Manage day to day functioning of the Student Center including but not limited to managing student check in / check out procedures, communicating with teachers and other staff about attendance concerns, ensuring interns have the support they need to consistently meet with students and provide the highest level of care, holding impromptu individual and group meetings with students that are in the DSC and need additional support, helping students to create goals around time and coping skills used to manage time effectively, keep track of supply needs and send orders / links to director, manage data collection for all interns and providers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Provides supervision of interns.
