The City of Manhattan is an Equal Opportunity Employer.Job SummaryAdult Softball Umpires will officiate adult softball games in MPRD men’s, women’s, and co-recreational leagues. Staff may be asked to provide service at a location other than their primary location.Job DutiesOfficiate adult softball games.Work with supervisory staff to assure the accurate setup of the playing field.Notify, instruct, and correct customer / participant behavior that is deemed inconsistent with athletic facility rules in a fair, timely, and polite manner.Assist supervisors, as needed, by helping with tear-down at the end of the night (bases, equipment, etc.).Provide excellent customer service and possess a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department.Establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with others, individually and in a team environment.Possess characteristics of a strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.Perform other duties as assigned.RequirementsRequired Education and ExperienceAbility to learn slow pitch softball rules and mechanics.Must be 18 years of age or older.Preferred Education and ExperienceKnowledge of USSSA rules and officiating mechanics and signals.Physical Demands / Work EnvironmentWork facilities include Twin Oaks Softball Complex and CiCo Field.Work is performed weeknights, predominantly Monday and Thursday evenings.Work is performed in a potentially noisy environment.Employee may be required to work in extreme temperatures.Employee must have the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle, feel, speak, hear, climb stairs, push, pull, or lift up to 40 pounds.Other InformationThis is a seasonal position and, as such, is not covered by KPERS.#J-18808-Ljbffr
