Position Overview:
The Heavy Truck Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the truck maintenance of our fleet of heavy-duty, on-road trucks, primarily tri-axle dump trucks. This role ensures all vehicles are compliant, safe, and fully operational, coordinating repairs, preventive maintenance (PM), and inspections. The Truck Shop Foreman leads a team of mechanics, manages maintenance records, and communicates with vendors and outside repair shops to maintain the reliability of the fleet. The foreman works directly with and under the Shop Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Team Management:
Lead, train, and oversee shop mechanics, ensuring high performance and adherence to safety standards.

Assign and prioritize daily tasks, repairs, and maintenance schedules for the mechanics.

Conduct regular performance evaluations along with the Shop Superintendent, provide feedback, and foster a collaborative work environment.

Preventive and Routine Maintenance:
Develop and enforce a preventive maintenance (PM) schedule for all fleet vehicles, ensuring timely inspections and servicing.

Oversee routine maintenance and diagnostics on vehicles, including engine checks, brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulics.

Conduct or oversee DOT (Department of Transportation) inspections to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations.

Quality Control and Inspections:
Review driver pre- and post-trip walk-around inspection reports and address any identified issues.

Conduct and manage in-depth inspections for identifying potential issues before they become major problems, ensuring fleet reliability and safety.

Maintain records of inspections, ensuring all records are accurate, complete, and easily accessible.

Work Order and Record Management:
Manage the work order system, creating, tracking, and closing work orders in alignment with company policy.

Ensure all maintenance, repairs, and inspections are recorded accurately in the company’s tracking system.

Generate reports on vehicle status, repair history, and overall fleet health, presenting findings to the Shop Superintendent.

Vendor and External Shop Coordination:
Communicate effectively with vendors and outside repair shops for specialized repairs, parts ordering, and vendor services.

Maintain strong relationships with external partners to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and services.

Manage warranty claims and service agreements as needed.

Safety and Compliance:
Enforce safety standards within the shop, ensuring all work is conducted in a safe and compliant manner.

Ensure fleet complies with all DOT and company standards, promptly addressing any compliance issues.

Communication and Collaboration:
Work closely with the Trucking Foreman and Shop Superintendent to coordinate daily activities, resource allocation, and planning.

Communicate with drivers and the trucking department to gather feedback on vehicle performance and address any operational issues.

Coordinate with the Shop Superintendent and Equipment Manager on long-term maintenance and fleet management strategies.

Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in heavy-duty truck maintenance and repair, with a preferred background in fleet management.

Strong understanding of DOT regulations, heavy truck diagnostics, and repair methods.

Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing and training teams.

Proficiency with maintenance tracking and work order systems.

Excellent organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform physically demanding tasks associated with truck repair and inspection.
