Senior Project Manager – Civil Construction

Location : North Carolina

Summary of Responsibilities

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) at Civil Works Contracting (CWC) oversees the management and execution of multiple heavy construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. The SPM is responsible for planning, budgeting, scheduling, and supervising all aspects of assigned projects while maintaining close communication with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams. This role may also serve as the on-site manager for large, complex projects. The SPM is expected to lead by example and uphold CWC’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Project Management and Leadership

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with owners, clients, and stakeholders to facilitate project activities.
  • Developing, understanding and overseeing the initial project schedule (IPS) and maintaining throughout the project duration.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to Assistant Project Managers, field Project Engineers, along with other support staff.
  • Collaborate with superintendents and foremen to plan, organize, and direct project activities.
  • Lead or assist in the estimating process for potential projects.
  • Set project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards in line with company policies and contract requirements.
  • Monitor and control project progress to ensure completion within budget and schedule.
  • Investigate and resolve critical project issues and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Represent the company at project and strategic planning meetings.
  • Assist with bids & and change orders

Financial and Administrative Oversight

  • Oversee the financial stability of each project utilizing job cost reports to perform the required monthly
  • Cost-to-Complete (CTC).

  • Work with contract administrators to manage financial aspects of contracts, ensuring company interests
  • are protected while maintaining positive client relationships.

  • Oversee procurement of supplies and materials to ensure project needs are met.
  • Prepare and update job reports, including progress, cost, and scheduling updates.
  • Ensure change orders are submitted to clients promptly and within one week of request.
  • Complete and distribute meeting minutes within 72 hours of progress meetings.
  • Quality and Safety

  • Ensure project preconstruction plans are developed, implemented, and adhered to.
  • Monitor field staff compliance with safety plans and protocols.
  • Review and enforce project safety plans prior to work commencement.
  • Ensure punch lists are completed to customer satisfaction.
  • Communication and Reporting

  • Proactively develop relationships with subcontractors to enhance project execution.
  • Return all calls and emails within 24 hours.
  • Submit O&M manuals to clients within 30 days of substantial completion.
  • Complete WIP (Work in Progress) reports within scheduled timeframes.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of construction management experience, with a focus on heavy construction.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and follow up effectively.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and professional in appearance and demeanor.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams.
