Overview
The Director of Nursing (DON) plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the nursing department within a healthcare facility. This position is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient care, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the effective management of nursing staff. The DON will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans that meet the needs of patients while adhering to best practices in nursing and healthcare.
Duties
- Lead and manage the nursing department, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans for patients.
- Ensure proper documentation of medical records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Conduct regular assessments of nursing staff performance and provide guidance for professional development.

- Maintain knowledge of current nursing practices, medical terminology, and anatomy to provide effective leadership.
- Manage MDS (Minimum Data Set) assessments to ensure accurate reporting and quality of care.
- Implement quality assurance programs to monitor patient care standards within the facility.
- Provide support in hospice care settings as needed, ensuring compassionate end-of-life care.
Experience
- A valid nursing license with extensive experience in a nursing home or home health setting is required.
- 2 years experience strongly preferred
- Proven experience in managing nursing staff and leading a healthcare team effectively.
- Knowledge of care plans, MDS processes, and regulatory compliance related to nursing practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and staff.
