Summary:

The Lifestyle Coordinator is a pivotal role designed to shape and grow Civitan Foundation’s new Lifestyle Program. This position focuses on engaging directly with members to understand their unique interests and aspirations, creating opportunities for them to live vibrant, inclusive lives beyond traditional programming. The Lifestyle Coordinator will lead efforts to design a dynamic calendar of activities that prioritize community involvement and reflect the desires of Civitan’s members. This is not a desk job – it is an active, hands-on position that requires daily outings with members into the community to foster meaningful connections and experiences.

The goal of this program is to empower members to live the lifestyle they choose by offering robust opportunities to explore their passions, build relationships, and enjoy life to its fullest potential.

Program Development and Member Engagement:

  • Develop and grow the Lifestyle Program by building strong relationships with members to understand their individual interests, hobbies, and goals.
  • Facilitate engaging member consultations to ensure the program reflects their preferences and fosters inclusivity and participation.
  • Create and maintain a vibrant lifestyle calendar that offers diverse and enriching activities, emphasizing community outings and experiences beyond Civitan’s facilities.

Activity Coordination:

  • Plan and execute daily community-based activities, such as cultural events, recreational outings, volunteer opportunities, and educational workshops, based on member input.
  • Collaborate with enrichment staff, managers, and local organizations to curate engaging events and opportunities.
  • Host visitors and special guests, such as performers, artists, and educators, to enhance in-house programming when community outings are not feasible.

Community Integration:

  • Actively seek partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and venues to expand opportunities for member participation in community activities.
  • Foster an environment of inclusion where members build meaningful relationships with peers and community members.

Member Empowerment:

  • Lead member council meetings, guiding members in brainstorming and selecting activities for the community calendar.
  • Encourage and support member decision-making, self-advocacy, and participation in all aspects of the program.
  • Ensure that all programming prioritizes member independence and engagement.

Safety and Support:

  • Provide hands-on support during outings to ensure the safety and comfort of all participants.
  • Train and coordinate staff assisting with community activities to ensure they are familiar with member needs and emergency procedures.
  • Monitor and address the physical and emotional well-being of members, escalating concerns as needed.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of activities, member participation, and progress toward lifestyle goals.
  • Provide detailed reports to supervisors and collaborate with teams to ensure continuous program improvement.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Additional certifications in caregiving or therapeutic support are a plus (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Article 9, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist).
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with special needs or in a similar caregiving or recreational therapy role.
  • Experience in planning and leading activities for diverse populations, particularly those with developmental or physical disabilities.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals with special needs, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Creativity and problem-solving abilities to design engaging and adaptable activities.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude in working with individuals with diverse needs.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies, community resources, and behavior management strategies is an advantage.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Physical ability to assist in activities requiring mobility or physical support.
  • Background check and clearances as required by state or local regulations.
