Hughes Construction, a leader in underground utility and pipeline construction since 1946, is seeking an experienced Water/Wastewater Superintendent to oversee and manage water and wastewater projects. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring that projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in water and wastewater utility construction, a deep understanding of underground infrastructure projects, and the ability to effectively lead teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Position Overview

As a Water/Wastewater Superintendent, you will be responsible for overseeing the installation, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure, ensuring that all work is performed to the highest quality and safety standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate multiple crews and projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

·         Oversee the daily operations of water and wastewater utility construction projects, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.

·         Lead and supervise field crews, ensuring productivity, quality, and adherence to safety standards.

·         Plan and coordinate equipment, materials, and workforce to optimize efficiency and meet project schedules.

·         Conduct site inspections and safety audits to maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.

·         Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure project specifications are met.

·         Interpret and enforce project plans, blueprints, and technical specifications.

·         Troubleshoot on-site challenges, ensuring smooth workflow and minimal project delays.

·         Maintain accurate documentation, including daily reports, work logs, and safety records

·         Ensure all quality control measures are implemented and upheld throughout the project

·         Mentor and train crew members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.

Qualifications & Experience

·         10 years of experience in water and wastewater utility construction.

·         5 years of leadership experience in a superintendent, foreman, or managerial role.

·         Hands-on experience with water/wastewater treatment plants, distribution systems, pump stations, and underground piping.

·         Strong understanding of excavation, trenching, and pipeline installation best practices.

·          In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing water/wastewater infrastructure.

·          Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

·          Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and direct field crews.

·          Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project conditions.

Requirements

·         Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

·         Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

·         Willingness to travel to job sites as needed and work in various weather conditions.
