Job Summary
Receiving work instruction from the Sunday Lead, assist with press operations to ensure efficient and quality production. This position is the 2nd level in a four-step career progression. When adequately trained and a third-level positions opens, progression to next level will be offered and may require shift change.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist with press operations to include bundling, roll tending, make-ready, register, color, and maintenance activities. Must dependably achieve and maintain proper press registration, web alignment, set margins, slitters, and cut off.
- Responsible for preparing and loading paper.
- Assist in verification that correct plates are being used and determine when additional plates are necessary. Plates need to be bent and ready for press in a timely manner.
- Responsible for checking jobs for accuracy.
- Assist Sunday Operator ll in monitoring press activities with an eye toward preventative maintenance and improved quality.
- Maintain proper ink levels on press, ensure that proper ink is being used, change ink totes, and maintain ink pumps as required.
- Maintain proper fountain solution levels, ensure that conductivity and PH levels are correct per the type of fountain solution being run.
- During make-ready, wipe down blankets, change over paper if required, change ink, and perform clean up and around press. May be responsible for emptying holding containers and folding rags.
- Assist as needed in mounting plates / blankets and perform maintenance on press equipment.
- Grease, oil, and maintain press equipment as scheduled or required.
- Responsible for cleaning and general housekeeping in department.
- Become part of the press crew, work well with the crew, and do what is necessary to keep equipment running.
- Be a positive role model to crew members around safety, work ethic, and morale.
- Foster the continual use and implementation of philosophies and tools that are taught at Sheridan while promoting the concept of working together as a team and with other departments to building continuous improvement within Sheridan.
- Train to perform next level position to effectively cover absences and breaks as well as to be sufficiently prepared for job progression.
- Continually identify, develop, and implement improvements in work processes.
- Consistently and effectively serve as a positive role model by living Sheridan's core values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and physical hazards of machinery, plus some exposure to fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals. Position requires ability to move with ease in the production area; remain in stationary position for prolonged periods of time on concrete / hard surface; use hands and fingers constantly for handling, gripping, and manipulating product; constantly position oneself to complete work including bending, twisting, rotating, and reaching; and move product weighing up to 50 pounds.
