Asphalt Laborer

Summary of Position

An Asphalt Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of manual labor tasks related to asphalt paving and maintenance. This role requires physical stamina, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the placement, spreading, and leveling of hot asphalt mix.
• Use rakes, shovels, and other tools to distribute asphalt evenly.
• Ensure proper compaction and smoothness of asphalt surfaces.
• Prepare Work sites by cleaning and clearing debris, including rocks, dirt, and old asphalt.
• Assist in setting up traffic control devices, such as cones and signs.
• Assist in grading and leveling surfaces.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
• Follow safety procedures regarding equipment usage.
• Load and unload materials and transport them to and from work sites. 
• Any other duties assigned 

Needed Characteristics

• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
• Ability to work in hot and cold weather conditions.
• Ability to work in a construction environment.
• Ability to follow instructions and learn quickly.
