SCHOOL YEAR:2024/2025
JOB DESCRIPTION: To assist in the registration of students, translate documents, assist in interpreting for IEP meetings within the Newport Public School System in support of a professional and positive experience with the parents, teachers and students.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school or high school equivalency. College education preferred.
Must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish/English Language. Additional languages a plus
Ability to maintain computerized records as required and use of computer software applications.
Ability to provide written and oral communication in Spanish.
Possession of excellent organizational skills.
Ability to communicate well with a diverse population including departments, administrators, staff, parents, teachers, and students.
Responsible for the transfer and recording of information to schools, Office of Student Services and technology. Ability to communicate and relay information between all schools.
Ability to communicate in Spanish required. Other languages a plus
Understanding of special education, ELL and homeless requirements as defined by state and federal law a plus.
Pass an online, NPS purchased Spanish proficiency test (prior to hire)
ALTA Language Services:Spanish Listening and Speaking General Proficiency
Pass the Mental Health Translator professional development program (during year 1)
Score 80% or higher on Basic Computer Literacy Test (EmployTest)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support Pell School and/or district with Spanish Language needs.
Check Spanish student records for discrepancies and correct errors as necessary to maintain accurate information.
Refer students, parents, counselors and others, as necessary, to the appropriate person for the purpose of obtaining more information regarding services and programs.
Perform interpretive duties, including drafting bilingual communications.
Support and maintenance of sensitive records and information with complete confidentiality.
Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Walking, stooping, reaching, talking, lifting (10-pound minimum),
hearing, standing, kneeling, carrying, keyboarding, seeing, and sitting.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must have availability Monday to Friday 32.5 hours per week, hours to be determined
