Development Associate
Location: San Jose, CA (Hybrid – 1 day remote after onboarding)
About the Role
Our client, a mission-driven real estate developer, is seeking a Development Associate to support various real estate development projects. This role will focus on market-rate projects while providing the opportunity to gain experience in affordable housing. The ideal candidate is coachable, eager to learn, and comfortable working with project teams and public agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Support
- Assist in all phases of real estate development, including site selection, due diligence, design, financing, construction, and lease-up.
- Support project schedules, budgets, and milestones to ensure on-time completion.
- Oversee predevelopment activities, including surveys, appraisals, and environmental assessments.
Financial & Funding Assistance
- Help prepare and analyze financial models, including proformas and cash flow analyses.
- Support efforts to secure project financing through grants, loans, and tax credits.
- Assist in preparing funding applications and working with government agencies to ensure compliance.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Work with project teams, including architects, contractors, and legal consultants.
- Liaise with county agencies and other partners on project-related matters.
- Assist in responding to RFQs/RFPs and maintaining relationships with funding agencies.
Market Research & Site Analysis
- Conduct research on local real estate markets and assess development opportunities.
- Perform feasibility studies and demographic analyses.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Urban Planning, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in real estate development, ideally in market-rate projects.
- Interest in learning affordable housing finance and development.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with financial modeling.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams and external stakeholders.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 bonuses.
