What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit Operator position at Clallam Transit System?
Position Overview
Under the direction of the operations supervisor, the transit operator is responsible for operating mass transit vehicles to transport passengers to various destinations within the service area in a safe, timely, and professional manner. This position provides critical contributions to support Clallam Transit System’s (CTS) mission.
Compensation
Wage begins at $26.51 per hour, moving to $28.16 per hour after successful completion of the 180-day probationary period. Operators receive pay increases on their anniversaries up to $34.46 (2024-2026 wage scale) and annual cost of living increases.
Summary of Required Qualifications
High school diploma or high school equivalency.
Five consecutive years of licensed driving experience.
A valid driver's license or ability to obtain. Meet all requirements and obtain a class B Washington State commercial driver's license (CDL), with proper licensure, during training period. Paid training is provided at Clallam Transit System for obtaining the required CDL.
Summary of Working Conditions
This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with CTS policy and federal regulations. Represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 587.

- CTS transit passes for employee and qualifying dependents.
- Reimbursement of CDL endorsement fees and USDOT medical examination costs.
