Job Summary
The Billing and Collections Representative is responsible for ensuring compliance with the philosophy, policies, procedures, and goals of the Clara Barton Hospital. This role involves cross-training to perform work in patient billing and collections.
Essential Functions:
- Verify that all necessary information for proper billing is recorded in patient files, discussing account details with patients as needed.
- Prepare claims for submission to primary and secondary insurance companies for payment on patient accounts.
- Contact insurance companies to collect submitted patient claims.
- Resubmit required information to process claims.
- Update claim classification in the computer system to reflect expected pay sources accurately.
- Meet monthly cash collection/AR day goals.
- Attend annual in-services and update staff development records accordingly.
- Participate in ACE meetings relevant to the job or mandatory CBH meetings as needed.
- Resubmit unpaid claims on aging reports to meet departmental aging goals.
- Ensure accuracy of insurance payments.
Working Conditions:
- Physical Demands: Manual dexterity is required for operating standard office equipment. The position involves prolonged sitting and use of a video display terminal, necessitating excellent verbal communication skills for representing the Rural Health Clinic and Clara Barton Hospital to staff, patients, and the public.
- Mental/Visual Demands: Concentration and attention to detail are crucial for maintaining accurate records pertaining to patient and/or account information.
- Environmental Factors: The position functions within a normal building environment, requiring adaptability to periodic changes in temperature, air quality, and noise levels.
Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of bookkeeping, general accounting, collecting, and standard office practices and procedures.
- Ability to type.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Familiarity with using the Internet and processing claims through the hospital system.
