Merchandiser Job Summary
A Merchandiser is predominately a Grocery Store support position, responsible for working with the sales department to execute and maintain shelf, display and merchandising standards. A Merchandiser provides pack out service to Grocery Stores, filling the shelves and displays with products from truck deliveries and backroom stock. The Merchandiser is also responsible for assisting Sales Supervisors and Salespeople in dropping off point of sale and promotional items where needed.
$20.00 per hour
Job Functions
- Sales Support Functions
- Merchandising
- Pack Out Grocery Stores
- Communicate with Store Manager’s/Grocery Manager’s/Receiver’s.
- Fill store shelf space and maintain proper display levels.
- Maintain and Organize Back Room Stock Area.
- Ensure proper Product Rotation using Product Freshness Codes.
- Ensure each product has a Shelf Tag and Price Sign Awareness on displays.
- Ensure Shelf Plan-o-gram is being followed in each account they service.
- Affixing rebate coupons.
- Report Out of Stocks.
Input Sales orders
- Weekend Sales orders executed by route, by account where applicable.
- Communicate and confirm orders With Store Manager/Grocery Manager/Receiver.
- Knowledge of Encompass System.
Build Displays
- Build, resupply, and properly merchandise Clare Rose Portfolio Product displays.
- Ensure price signs are available on all displays.
Installing Point of Connection Materials (P.O.C.M)
- Delivering and installing promotional items that draw attention to our products.
- Examples of P.O.C.M. include neon signs, banners, price signs and inflatable items.
- Understand P.O.C.M. standards and execution.
Assist Sales Team, Supervisors and Delivery Drivers
- in executing asset drop offs with large deliveries and display building.
- Assist Delivery Driver as a helper delivering kegs and cases of product if needed.
- Resets – re-organize store shelf sets as needed.
- Breakage repackaging product.
- Hot Shots Deliveries to accounts.
Portfolio / Brand and Product Knowledge
- Clear understanding of the products Clare Rose sells.
- Undergo training to help familiarize yourself with our product portfolio.
Segment/Chain Knowledge
- Chain/KAM initiatives and programming i.e., mail-in-rebates/cross merchandising.
- Pricing Knowledge.
- Review weekly ad sales sheet.
Administrative Functions
- Communication and Customer servicePhone, email, text message, face to face communication.
- Frequent communication with direct line manager, sales team, team members, and account manager’s
General, Vehicle & Supermarket Safety Requirements
- Follow Safety Policies and Procedures
- Follow all policies and procedures pertaining to proper usage of a company vehicle. To include cleanliness, appearance, and service intervals
Merchandising Requirements
- Minimum age of 18 years old
- Valid New York State Driver’s License with a clean driving history
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time if needed.
- Ability to work independently.
- Above average oral and written communication skills (Interacts well with internal and external customers)
- Average computer knowledge, skills, and experience
- Enthusiastic, team player interested in positive company growth.
- Reliable vehicle to get to and from work.
- Have cell phone & internet access.
Education and Experience
- High school Diploma
- Grocery and/or retail experience preferred

Physical Demands
The employee is required to lift and manage packaged items ranging from 30-50 lbs. freehanded and sometimes over that threshold using an appropriate lift system. Some tools that can be used are: manual pallet jack, U-Boat, hand truck, and electric powered drill driver. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Merchandiser’s job.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job in the office environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud. While performing duties on this job in the field environment, the employee will be exposed on a regular basis to moving mechanical parts, motor vehicles and traffic.
Exposure while in customer locations cannot be projected. These conditions may vary, and the employee will receive adequate training to recognize and avoid hazards that cannot be described as expected. Employees are expected to follow rules and regulations set forth by the Department of Transportation while operating a motor vehicle and driving between customer locations.
