We are seeking a passionate and innovative professional to lead and develop our Sports Vision Therapy Department, with a specific focus on football and baseball athletes. This role will be performed in close collaboration with and under the supervision of our optometrists to ensure the highest quality care and integration with our current services.
Position Overview
The Sports Vision Specialist & Performance Trainer will partner with our optometrists and Vision Therapy team to develop and oversee the Sports Vision Therapy Department. This individual will focus on assessing, training, and optimizing visual and cognitive skills critical for success in football and baseball. Working under the optometrists' guidance, the Specialist will ensure that all training and therapeutic programs are aligned with clinical best practices and tailored to meet the needs of our patients.
In addition to clinical duties, the Specialist will collaborate with the marketing and outreach team to promote the Sports Vision Therapy program, educate the community, and build relationships with local athletic organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Development & Implementation:
- Collaborate with optometrists to design a comprehensive Sports Vision Therapy program focused on football and baseball athletes.
- Develop protocols, procedures, and materials in alignment with optometrists' recommendations.
- Integrate sports vision therapy into the overall practice workflow to enhance patient outcomes.
- Athlete Training & Care:
- Conduct sport-specific vision evaluations and training sessions for football and baseball athletes under the supervision of optometrists.
- Use advanced tools, including reaction timers, tracking devices, and drills tailored to football and baseball needs.
- Ensure that all programs comply with clinical standards set by the supervising optometrists.
- Collaboration & Integration:
- Work closely with optometrists to ensure programs are evidence-based and achieve desired outcomes.
- Educate the Vision Therapy team on sports vision therapy tools and techniques.
- Collaborate with marketing and outreach teams to promote the Sports Vision Therapy program, educate the community, and build partnerships with local sports teams.
- Assist in organizing and participating in community events, workshops, and presentations to increase awareness of sports vision therapy.
- Leadership & Growth:
- Lead the Sports Vision Therapy team, mentoring staff to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
- Stay updated on the latest research, trends, and tools in sports vision therapy for football and baseball.
- Develop relationships with local sports organizations to promote the program, under the direction of the optometrists and in partnership with the marketing team.
Qualifications
- Education & Certification:
- Certification or training in Sports Vision Therapy or Sports Vision Training (e.g., ISVA, OEPF preferred).
- Background in sports performance, kinesiology, physical therapy, or related field.
- Optional but desirable: Certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or related sports performance certification.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in sports vision therapy, sports performance training, or related field, preferably with a focus on football and/or baseball athletes.
- Experience working in collaboration with healthcare professionals, particularly optometrists.
- Familiarity with tools like eye-tracking devices, depth perception training, and sport-specific drills.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of the visual and cognitive demands of football and baseball.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with optometrists, athletes, marketing teams, and community partners.
- Leadership and organizational skills to develop and manage the department effectively.
