Clarity Partners is seeking a Senior Water Main Design Engineer local to Chicago, IL. This individual will be responsible for managing the planning, design and project management of the construction of water mains on a client facing project. This position will report in a hybrid setting.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the planning, design, and project management of water main construction projects, including lead service line replacements, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Prepare and review complex water main design plans, including those submitted by other agencies, while ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Coordinate and communicate with permitting agencies, such as the Office of Utility Coordination (OUC), and prepare necessary permit applications, including those for IDOT.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, training them on water main design principles, processes, and project management best practices.
- Track project progress using P6 and other project management software, maintaining up-to-date records and monitoring key milestones.
- Address and resolve review comments from clients and stakeholders, facilitating discussions and coordinating responses during project meetings.
- Prepare and review cost estimates, contract documents, and bidding materials for various types of projects.
- Manage special projects, such as lead service line design and implementation, and provide technical expertise to support construction teams, management, and other departments within the program.
- Oversee quality assurance and control processes, conducting detailed reviews of designs performed by others and coordinating revisions with the CADD team.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in water main design, engineering, or project management, with proven experience in complex projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the State of Illinois preferred.
- Proficiency in water main design and engineering principles, with strong experience preparing design deliverables and coordinating with permitting agencies.
- Familiarity with P6 and project tracking software, and a basic understanding of MicroStation software.
- Strong mentoring and leadership skills, with the ability to train and support junior-level engineers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interaction and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Experience in preparing IDOT permit applications and addressing client and OUC comments preferred.
