Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time Tenure-track Art Professor with an emphasis in Art History. The Art Department at Clark currently offers two Associate in Fine Arts degrees, one in Studio Art and one in Graphic Design. We also offer specialized concentrations in art and design within the AA/DTA degree. Art History classes are required for all of the various programs. In addition to teaching classes in art history, the ideal candidate will have experience working and teaching in a studio art discipline. Faculty in the art department participate and contribute to the co-curricular art initiatives on campus, develop interdisciplinary curriculum with other departments across campus and within the art department, and pursue/engage in community partnerships with local arts organizations to expand opportunities for our students.

Department and college service work is expected with the position (as assigned by the division or college) to support the institutional mission and goals, foremost being student success and retention. This position begins September 12, 2025.

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instruct all classes as an expert in the discipline using active learning approaches that both engage and facilitate student learning.
  • Advise and assist students in their educational and career development.

  • Pursue professional development to stay current in the field.
  • Obtain and maintain Professional-Technical Certification requirements.
  • Participate in program, curriculum development and assessment activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, businesses, advisory committees, and other educational partners to create unique learning opportunities at Clark College.
  • Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in department and college committees.
  • Work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • Understand and commit to the mission of Clark College.
  • Work cooperatively in a variety of department-level activities and college or company-wide projects. 
  • Pursue professional development to enhance teaching and learning in the department and College.


POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach courses in Art History with the ability to teach one or more of the following: Ancient to Late Antique Art, Medieval to Renaissance Art, Baroque to Modern Art, Asian Art, Women in Art, 20th Century Art, Graphic Design History, Art Appreciation. 
  • Approach teaching Art History from a global perspective including culturally inclusive subject matter.
  • Stay competent in curriculum and course development, teaching and pedagogy, evaluation of student outcomes, and development of student critical thinking skills. 
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity, especially experience working with first generation college students and those from systemically non-dominant cultures.
  • An understanding of how historical patterns of exclusions of these groups in higher education have shaped patterns of participation and outcomes and the ability to address these disparities in the classroom.
  • A demonstrated commitment to participatory governance, consensus building, and team approach to management of the department and college. 
  • Basic knowledge of gallery/Museum exhibitions and/or curatorial practices and how these fields are relevant to an art curriculum. 
  • Manage adjuncts in Art History.
  • Teach and propose curricula in studio art.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to use teaching methods that engage students and encourage them to be motivated self-learners. 
  • Integrate Art History within a studio art curriculum via collaboration with other art faculty.
  • Participate in campus wide engagement and collaborations

  • Outcomes assessment
  • Develop initiatives to recruit and retain students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Master’s degree in Art History or Visual Culture/Visual Studies OR A bachelor's degree in Art History AND a masters degree in another field OR a Masters degree in Art with professional experience teaching art history or related fields. 
  • Teaching experience, preferably in community college or other higher education setting. 
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following specialties: digital art, art foundations, drawing, painting, illustration, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, 3D design, and gallery prep.

SALARY STATEMENT:

Starting salary is $78,327 (non-negotiable). Faculty may be eligible to advance every other year; current top step is $110,332. Salary is for a 173-day contract; additional compensation is available for summer and moonlight teaching, and doctoral and vocational stipends. Please note the salary may be adjusted for the 2025-2026 year pending the legislatively funded cost-of-living.
