School-Based Mental Health Counselor

Position:
Licensed mental health professional (PLPC, LPC, LMSW, LCSW) to provide school-based therapy services to students in grades K-12. This is a full-time salaried position with a 9.5-month work schedule that mirrors the public school calendar. The salary will be spread evenly over 12 months of pay periods, in the same way that a teacher’s salary is spread throughout the year. During summer leave, eligibility for benefits is retained. At the end of summer leave, the employee will return to work in the school-based position. The employee will receive paid time off consistent with the school district’s scheduled breaks, teacher in-service days, snow days, etc.
 
Location:
Barry, Lawrence, and/or Dade County, Missouri. Due to the nature of the position, working remotely is not supported. Daily travel to area schools will be required.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively and develops relationships with teachers, guidance counselors, and school administrative staff.
  • Assesses the need for school-based mental health treatment of students’ emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and psychological needs.
  • Completes diagnostic intake assessments and develops treatment plans consistent with evidence-based practices.
  • Provides mental health therapy and behavioral health services for students, designed to promote personal growth consistent with their individualized treatment plans. 
  • Educates students and their parents/guardians regarding their diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and therapeutic process.
  • Identifies, recommends, networks with, and utilizes community resources to facilitate the highest possible mental health functioning of all clients. Makes appropriate referrals, as necessary.
 
Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
  • Missouri licensure in good standing (PLPC, LPC, LMSW, LCSW). 
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a therapeutic context.
  • Strong typing and computer literacy skills. 
  • Familiarity with electronic health records.
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Ideal candidates will excel at working autonomously and without direct supervision, will be comfortable working outside of the traditional office setting, and will be able to appropriately solve complex problems and mental health crises in-the-field.
