Job purpose
The Substance Use Counselor will provide assessment, education and individual/group counseling sessions to ensure the behavioral health needs of those needing such services are effectively and efficiently served.
Duties and responsibilities
- Complete assessment to explain medical necessity of treatment
- Help clients define goals, plan action and gain insight
- Encourage clients to discuss/examine emotions and experiences
- Work with families
- Help clients achieve identified goals
- Develop therapeutic processes
- Refer clients to other necessary services
- Work with individuals, groups and communities to improve behavioral health
- Take a holistic approach to behavioral health care
- Complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner
- Complete other duties as required by the position and/or as assigned by the immediate supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer
Qualifications
- Education - Minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent
- Specialized knowledge- SUD treatment approaches. Legal matters related to SUD treatment.
- Skills/Abilities- Effective oral and written communication
- Professional Certification- SUD certification(s) required
Working conditions
General Conditions- Work is generally performed in office type settings where answering phone and using computers and other technology should be expected.

Physical requirements
General Conditions- Job duties may require sitting or standing for long periods of time. Travel, with some trips requiring several hours in a vehicle, should be expected. Minor lifting and moving may be expected requiring ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
