What are the responsibilities and job description for the DEPARTMENTAL SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR position at Clark County?
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field and four (4) years of full-time professional level experience in systems analysis and design and hardware and software acquisition in a departmental environment, including some lead or supervisory experience. Additional experience in systems analysis and/or programming may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two (2) years. An advanced degree in appropriate field preferred.All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. - Provides lead direction, training and work review to departmental staff assisting in the automation process; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work.
- Provides input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary and other personnel matters; may sign evaluation forms and counsel employees as required.
- Gathers and analyzes information regarding departmental systems and requirements and those of related departments and develops or modifies automated systems to fulfill these needs.
- Conducts feasibility studies and develops hardware and software specifications and cost requirements.
- Coordinates departmental activities with activities of the centralized information systems staff; serves as liaison between the department and information systems staff.
- Plans, organizes and installs departmental personal computer and network hardware and software.
- Develops program specifications, logic and processing steps; may code programs in a variety of languages using structural programming techniques or may modify personal computer ASSEMBLER language and related systems utilities.
- May install and configure personal computer and/or network systems. May install, design, maintain, and/or troubleshoot a complex computer inter-network, including physical cable and telecommunications within the department and with other County users.
- Plans and develops test data to validate new or modified applications; designs input and output forms and documents.
- Troubleshoots hardware and software problems, as needed, for departmental user staff.
- Writes program documentation, user procedures, documentation and instructions and instructs departmental staff in using hardware and software applications and automated systems; conducts training programs and provides one-on-one instruction as required.
- Maintains records and prepares periodic and special reports of work performed.
- Maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and recommends upgrades to departmental management.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; may drive a personal or County motor vehicle in the course of the work to visit various departmental work sites.
