What are the responsibilities and job description for the JUVENILE PROBATION SUPERVISOR (EARLY RETIREMENT) position at Clark County?
THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU MUST BE AT LEAST TWENTY-ONE (21) YEARS OF AGE AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Education or a field related to the work AND four (4) years of full-time professional level probation, protective service or similar social service casework experience, including prior lead or supervisory experience in a juvenile justice or social service agency. Directly related work experience which has provided the knowledge and skills necessary to perform all aspects of the position may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. Must be capable of passing P.O.S.T. pre-agility Fitness Standards as defined by N.A.C. 289.300 (1) (f). Possession of an advanced degree is desirable.

Working Conditions: Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Work under potentially life-threatening emergency conditions. Work in violent, traumatic or highly charged emotional environments. Specified positions may be assigned to a remote work site at high elevation. May be subject to exposure to blood and air borne diseases.
Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License. Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid Nevada P.O.S.T. Category II, or higher, certification within one year from date of hire.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted. Must not have any qualifying offense that violates the standards required by NRS 62B.223 and/or NRS 62G.223.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
- Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
- Recommends selection of staff; trains staff in work procedures and provides for their in-service training and professional development; administers discipline as required.
- Provides input into unit budgetary and goal setting processes.
- Reviews the status of youth in detention; reviews records, police reports, prior and current files; discusses cases with staff and interviews the juvenile and appropriate family members or guardians; recommends actions, including possible probationary status.
- Provides ongoing case review and support to officers; schedules and facilitates group and individual meetings to ensure the quality and consistency of services provided by assigned staff.
- Provides direct intervention, including crisis, family and juvenile counseling as required.
- Develops administrative procedures to maintain balanced caseloads; develops work schedules to maximize resources and ensure timely service provision.
- Performs a variety of special studies and reviews; evaluates alternatives, makes recommendations and prepares narrative and statistical reports; develops training programs and educational materials related to area(s) of assignment.
- Prepares complete and accurate case notes; writes correspondence, reports and other written materials; may prepare statistical reports and summaries.
- Confers with other departmental supervisors regarding service provision and coordination; represents the department in meetings with service providers and other public and private organizations; participates in in-service training.
- Contributes to the overall quality of the unit's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
- Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a personal or County motor vehicle to attend meetings, transport juveniles and make site visits.
- Performs additional duties as necessary.
