What are the responsibilities and job description for the SENIOR FACILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN position at Clark County?
The Clark County Department of Real Property Management is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Senior Facility Maintenance Technician position. As an active member of our work team, you will provide lead, direction, training, and work review to a team of skilled and semi-skilled members. You will also perform journey level work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, security and structural systems and elements of County buildings and facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience directing, reviewing, and training others in the operation, maintenance, and repair of County facilities as well as journey level experience in one or more building trades.
This position performs maintenance, repair, and construction at all facilities across Clark County which could include detention facilities, court facilities, family/youth/recreation facilities, rural locations, coroner’s office and morgue, and campus locations. This position could also be subject to shift work that includes nights, evenings, and weekends.This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Some positions may be non-union positions and are excluded from membership in the union.Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND seven (7) years of full-time skilled experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of building operating systems and facilities. Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician; plant; HVAC or facility mechanic or in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required experience. Attendance at a recognized trade school is desirable.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. May be required to work in a detention facility.
Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Class C Nevada Driver's License at time of appointment. Certification in a specific building trade is desirable.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

- Provides lead direction, training and work review to a work crew or team; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work.
- Provides input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary and other personnel matters; may sign evaluation forms and counsel employees as required.
- Participates in the design, layout and planning of office, public facility, shop, and other remodeling, repair or modification projects affecting County buildings and facilities; takes measurements; prepares working drawings and sketches; assists in preparing project specifications.
- Estimates materials, tools and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for job.
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled craft work in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, electronics, security, and related facility systems and components.
- Inspects boilers, HVAC equipment, generators, pumps, motors and similar mechanical/electrical equipment on a regular basis; troubleshoots problems and repairs as required.
- Performs welding and braising on piping systems and mechanical components; fabricates metal elements as for facility and equipment repair.
- Tests and treats water in air conditioning and heating systems; recharges refrigeration systems.
- Repairs and installs doors and door hardware; changes and keys locks; installs security devices, alarm systems, pneumatic door closures and related hardware; performs semi-skilled rough and finish carpentry work.
- Inspects and maintains electronic information, communication and control systems; ensures that sensors, controllers and transmitters are in proper working condition.
- Maintains and services a variety of test equipment and hand and power tools; keeps small inventory of frequently used supplies and hardware.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- May direct the work of less skilled assistants on specific projects; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed.
- Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
