Director of Revenue Accounting
The Director of Revenue Accounting will lead and oversee all aspects of revenue recognition, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 regulations. This role is responsible for managing complex revenue arrangements, Gross-to-Net (GTN) accounting, and chargeback analysis while supporting the company's financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting functions. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a deep understanding of revenue recognition principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to drive process improvements across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the revenue accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely GAAP and non-GAAP revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606.
- Oversee revenue recognition processes, including deferral, sell-through methods, and variable consideration adjustments.
- Manage and account for revenue associated with alliance agreements, including upfront payments, milestone payments, and R&D cost-sharing arrangements.
- Direct Gross-to-Net (GTN) initiatives, including sales reserves analysis, chargeback calculations, rebates, discounts, and other deductions impacting net revenue.
- Ensure compliance with SEC reporting requirements, including the preparation of revenue-related disclosures and support for quarterly and annual filings.
- Collaborate with FP&A, Commercial, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure revenue transactions are recorded accurately and in alignment with contractual obligations.
- Serve as a key liaison for external and internal audits, providing detailed financial schedules and supporting documentation related to revenue and GTN.
- Develop and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in revenue accounting.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of revenue accounting professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA strongly preferred).
- 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years focused on revenue accounting and team leadership.
- Extensive knowledge of ASC 606, revenue recognition policies, and SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience managing complex revenue arrangements, including contract review, revenue forecasting, and variable consideration estimation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences industry with exposure to Gross-to-Net (GTN) modeling, chargebacks, and managed care contracts.
- Proficiency in large-scale ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and Power BI.
- Prior experience in a publicly traded company with SEC reporting responsibilities.
Work Environment:
- This is a hybrid role requiring 2-3 days per week onsite in Morris Plains, NJ.
- Some travel may be required for conferences, training, or company meetings.
