ClarkLindsey, East Central Illinois’s award-winning retirement community, seeks the skills of a Morning Shift Leader for our dining operation. The ideal shift leader will be an individual experienced in leading aspects of kitchen operations in a health-care environment. Attention to detail, ability to follow process and procedures, and interest in supervising the activities of others to ensure compliance to ClarkLindsey's standards is required for this important position.
This is a full-time position. The typical schedule is 6:30am - 3:00pm, and the schedule includes every-other weekend.
Position Summary:
The Morning Shift Leader is responsible for overseeing dining services aides during the morning shift, addressing any issues that arise, and ensuring a seamless transition of the kitchen environment and operation to the next team. This role ensures that operations run smoothly, customers are served efficiently, and team members are working in alignment with ClarkLindsey's goals and standards. This position will interact with team members, residents, vendors, guests, and others throughout the course of the shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Make sure all employees are in scheduled positions for the day. Resolve staffing shortages.
- Supervise buffet units and dining rooms, and assist with meal service as needed. Insure high food quality, proper food handling, food temperatures, portion control, timeliness of service, and diet accuracy.
- Supervise employees. Counsel and train employees to ensure compliance with ClarkLindsey, public health, and other regulatory requirements for the dining operation.
- Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, and address any concerns or issues.
- Assist with food preparation as needed.
- Delegate tasks based on priorities and operational needs.
- Ensure that all customers are provided with excellent service.
- Address customer complaints or concerns quickly and professionally.
- Monitor quality of service and take corrective action when needed.
- Ensure smooth handover to the next shift leader or manager.
- Provide updates on the progress of ongoing tasks or issues to the next shift.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Previous healthcare food service experience is required.
- Must possess, or obtain State of Illinois Department of Public Health Sanitation certification.
- ServSafe certification required within 30 days of hire. ClarkLindsey can assist with coordinating this process.
- Keep up-to-date on regulatory standards for dining operations. Share knowledge with team and managers.
- Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.
- Must be knowledgeable of dietary procedures, as well as related laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to nursing home operations.
- Must be able to use technology to communicate, document, inventory, etc. to effectively complete position responsibilities.
Working Conditions
- Works in office area as well as throughout the facility and its premises.
- Moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies, etc. under all conditions/circumstances
- Physical Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must be able to function independently.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Benefits and Compensation
The pay range for this position is $19.30 - $20.70 per hour, and is based on experience. Bonuses equaling up to 3% of salary annually are available based on performance, generally in the spring and fall each year.
