REPORTS TO:  Superintendent
 
POSITION GOAL: Using leadership, supervisory, and/or administrative skills to manage the athletic and activities program K-12 to promote each student's educational, athletic, and activity development.
 
SUPERVISES:  Directors, coaches, advisors, sponsors, etc. 
 
JOB SUMMARY:  To provide leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills that will promote the educational development of each student.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Supervises, organizes, and administers the school district's activity program according to Board policy as interpreted by administration regulations. 
  2. Interprets and recommends actions to comply with the activities conference, the rules and regulations of the Girls High School Athletic Union, the Boys High School Athletic Association, and all other state organizations for student activities. 
  3. Establishes, maintains, and regulates all budgetary aspects of the athletic/activity programs in the district in conjunction with the Superintendent and SBO.
  4. Schedules all secondary athletic and K-12 co/extra-curricular activities. 
  5. Hires officials, clinicians, and judges and issues contracts for these officials and/or schools with whom contests are planned.
  6. Coordinates arrangements for transportation for practice and contests in cooperation with the appropriate building principal and Director of Transportation.
  7. Serves as chairperson of the coaches, sponsors and directors and serves as liaison between this group and administration.
  8. Evaluates the athletic, activity, and coaching staff as district policy prescribes.  The qualified candidate must have an evaluator’s license to do so 
  9. Establishes procedure to assure that all students are eligible and current physical examinations and insurance coverage forms are on file for all 7-12 athletes. 
  10. Arranges all details of visiting school students, coaches, and sponsors' needs, including gymnasium services and field assistance.
  11. Provides leadership to coaches in the daily and weekly organization of athletic practice.
  12. Maintains an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and materials within the assigned area and reports all thefts/losses to the administration.
  13. Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the activity programs.
  14. Arrange/coordinate field, auditorium, court, and gym practice schedules.
  15. Provides an up-to-date system for evaluation of the total activity program and submits an annual report to the Superintendent regarding the progress of the school activity program. 
  16. Assists the superintendent and secondary principals in selecting, interviewing, and assigning athletic coaches.
  17. Coordinates scheduling of all activities regarding the use of gymnasium, auditorium, and athletic field areas for athletics, speech, drama, FFA, music, etc., and see that they are added to the master calendar.
  18. Schedules and facilitates assemblies and pep rallies with the High School Principal.
  19. Arrange with Principals for ticket takers at home contests/activities, set up the ticket sales booth, verify gate receipts, and ensure that money is correctly deposited as soon as possible following the event.
  20. Plans and supervises recognition programs for all students in activities.
  21. Arranges schedules with the principals for the care of track and field, football, baseball, softball, etc., to ensure maintenance and safety requirements are met, plus having the area ready for contests in conjunction with the custodial staff.
  22. Provides for coordinating supplementary activities at home contests/events such as band, workers, timers, announcers, scorers, law enforcement, custodians, student supervision, and discipline.
  23. Works with and advises the activities of booster organizations and serves as a liaison between the Booster Club and the school district. 
  24. Is the director for all tournaments, contests, events, and track meets.
  25. Responsible for the coordination of clubs and organizations. 
  26. Present whenever possible or make arrangements for others to supervise all activity events of the school to supervise the conduct of students, coaches, directors, and patrons.
  27. Assumes such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
  28. Ensure all district employees are appropriately trained as per board policy in the form of first aid, blood-borne pathogens, concussion training, mandatory reporting, and all others as established for coaching authorization.
  29. Submit an expense claim form providing for the payment of all officials, with payment to be made according to the adopted pay schedule, contract, and procedures for officials.
  30. Work with the coaches, sponsors, and directors to recommend equipment and supply purchases.
  31. When school is canceled, the AD will cancel games or practices and notify the administration, coaches, directors, sponsors, and the public of the decision. 
  32. Notify visiting schools and officials if a game or contest is postponed.
  33. Create and maintain rapport with the transportation director and head custodians to coordinate their efforts for all school activities. 
  34. Attend local, district, and state conferences for Athletic Directors.
  35. Establish and maintain a current inventory of uniforms and a rotation for uniform replacement.
  36. Maintain and establish a social media presence.
  37. Ensure proper marketing and branding of Clarke CSD athletics and activities within the district, community, conference, and state.
  38. Promote and maintain all established media outlets such as Hudl, the SCC network, GoClarkeTV, and all others as established by current policies and practices.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260-day contract (July 1 – June 30). This position is considered full-time and may be combined with an administrative assignment. Salary, benefits, and work year to be established by the Board of Education.  Two weeks (10 days) of vacation may be earned annually. Compensation Time can build up to 80 hours, based on hours above the 8-hour day (for example, up to 80 hours per year) (x amount can carry over to the following year).  Compensatory time for Saturday, Sunday, or Holiday Duty: allowed in connection with required district activities to a maximum of five (5) days per year according to the following formula: Up to four (4) hours = one half (1/2) day; Four (4) hours or more = one (1) day.

EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy for the Evaluation of Administrative Personnel and conducted by the Superintendent.
