Qualifications:                       Must possess the qualifications and certification set by the code of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Education.  Must have at least two years of previous Administrator experience.
 
Reports To:                            Superintendent
 
Position Goal:                        To support students and staff in grades 9-12 in maximizing student’s educational opportunities and achieving the fullest benefits from the school’s academic and non-academic programs, services, and offerings.
 
Supervises:                             All academic and support personnel employed and the students in the building assigned to the High School Principal.
 
Job Summary:                       To provide leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills that will promote the educational development of each student.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  1. Is responsible for the building and grounds of the assigned attendance center.
  2. Sets priorities for improving student achievement and administers the standardized testing program(s) for grades 9-12.
  3. Articulates and promotes high expectations for teaching and student learning.
  4. Aligns the educational programs, plans, and actions to the district’s vision and goals for student learning.
  5. Creates symbols, ceremonies, and activities that support the vision and mission of the district.
  6. Develop communication strategies to inform stakeholders of progress towards the vision and mission of the district.
  7. Provides leadership for assessing, developing, and improving school climate and culture.
  8. Provides leadership, encouragement, opportunities, and structure for all staff to continually design more effective teaching and learning experiences for all students.
  9. Evaluates staff and provides direction for improving instruction.
  10. Develops and supports staff professional development to improve student learning.
  11. Demonstrates awareness of professional issues and developments in education.
  12. Develop and revise, as needed, their professional development plan for continued improved performance with the superintendent.
  13. Operational procedures are designed and managed to maximize opportunities for successful learning.  Specifically, the High School principal will create the master teaching schedule and the individual student schedules for grades 9-12.
  14. Effectively manages board policies and procedures for the 9-12 students and staff.
  15. Demonstrates effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders in the operation of the school.
  16. Address problems promptly, specifically discipline issues for grades 9-12.
  17. Serves as a Harassment Officer, Child Abuse Investigator, Equity Coordinator, or Title IX Coordinator for the secondary building as determined by the district.
  18. Shares responsibility for completing the Iowa State reporting.
  19. Engages the community to create shared responsibility for student and school success.
  20. Promotes and supports parent/student/community involvement in the school.
  21. Shares leadership and decision-making.
  22. Connect students and families to the health, human, and social services they need so they can stay focused on learning.
  23. Demonstrates ethical, trustworthy, and professional behavior.
  24. Demonstrates values, beliefs, and attitudes that inspire others to higher performance levels.
  25. Treats people fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect.
  26. Applies policies and procedures fairly and equitably.
  27. Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity in the school community.
  28. Serves as an effective spokesperson for the welfare of all Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) members.
  29. Promotes respect for diversity in the school and community environment.
  30. Engages in dialogue with other decision-makers to improve teaching and learning.
  31. Communicates clearly to the community about building/district issues and performances.
  32. Provides leadership by assisting in developing mutual expectations and procedures for working together and formulating district policies as a team player.
  33. Knows and supports the building/district school improvement plan and accurately interprets and reports progress on goals.
  34. To assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   240-day contract (July 1 – June 30).  Salary to be established by the Board, benefits covered in the 300 section of Board policy.
 
EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy for the Evaluation of Administrative Personnel and conducted by the Superintendent.
