Audiology Extern 4th year

The Audiology program at Clarke Hearing Center will offer a fourth-year externship. This position will begin on June 2, 2025 and will end in early May 2026. Externs will be supervised by a licensed Doctor of Audiology over this time. Audiologists at Clarke hold their ASHA CCC-A in addition to the Massachusetts state license in audiology. Externs will be exposed to pediatric and adult audiologic evaluation and case management. Externs will also gain experience in selection of hearing aids and assisting in educational audiology assessments and accommodations for children with hearing loss.

Administers Diagnostic Tests:

• Provides amplification services including, hearing aid assessment testing and real ear measurements
• Coordinates and interprets test results.
• Consults with and makes recommendation on hearing disorders to physicians.
• Coordinates care with physicians and other providers.
• Completes chart notes for each patient seen and sends written report to referring physician.

Manages Hearing Rehabilitation:

• Counsels patients regarding test results.
• Makes recommendations regarding hearing care options.
• Reviews products available to improve hearing impairment.
• Sells appropriate hearing care products and warranties as deemed necessary to meet the needs of the patient.
• Dispenses hearing aids, including selection, fitting, ear-mold acoustics, ongoing management with follow-up, and education.
• Demonstrates and sells Assistive Listening Devices (ALD's), batteries, and other special products.
• Performs hearing aid repairs.
• Performs hearing aid checks and cleanings.

• Current Au.D student at an accredited college or university
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Must be able to organize time and prioritize tasks
• Must deal with customers in a caring and respectful manner
• The ability to work in a team environment
• The ability to interact professionally at all times with patients and team members
