Job Summary: University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy is seeking an outstanding performing arts teacher with proficiency in strings and vocal music. Duties would include responsibility for the school’s choir, string orchestra, and pep band. Candidates with strong music theory, piano accompanist abilities, and an additional arts or academic minor are preferred. The ideal candidate has the ability to build a program with strong support from the school. This position is currently open for the 2025-2026 school year.

Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full benefits package also included.

Duties and Performance Responsibilities:

• Direct the school choirs and orchestra
• Direct the school pep band at varsity basketball Catholic League home games
• Present and program several in-school concerts annually
• Work with the band director to present joint musical programming
• Lead the school musical production team to present the annual school musical
• Participate in annual music festivals as appropriate
• The Teacher's services shall include the preparation and correction of examinations, proctoring, and substitution. Included are the customary conferences with students and parents; individual guidance of students; service on faculty committees; active service in studying departmental and school problems; preparation of syllabi; attendance at commencement, faculty meetings and other school functions; and such other professional services as in the judgment of the Principal, the needs of the School shall require.

Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates should have either a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education (B.M.E. or B.S.), a B.A. in instrumental or vocal music, or a B.M. in performance or instrumental or vocal music. A Michigan teaching certificate with a JX endorsement is required, but applicants nearing the completion of the appropriate degree will be considered.

U of D Jesuit partners with Clarkston Community Schools for Shared Services. The successful candidate must be willing to participate in Shared Services for a portion of their day, as a condition of employment. Position will be held at U of D Jesuit.

Other Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental and vocal music programs
• Ability to implement policy and procedures
• Strong communication, organizational, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Physical Working Conditions:

• Must be able to lift light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (10 to 20 pounds).
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Working Environment: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
