The staff works to continuously improve quality and service by focusing on the processes that are important in meeting the needs of patients and their families and physicians on staff at the facility.
Job Summary: low- and high-level disinfection of endoscopy scopes, assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized procedures of a routine nature.
Provides direct patient care by assisting patients with changing linens, ambulation, and transport. Maintains a clean and orderly patient care environment. Obtains and records patient vital signs, provides nutritional intake and reports results and observations. Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Knows and adheres to policies of the Center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
- Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for Endoscopy nursing care according to accepted standards.
- Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge of Endoscopy procedures and techniques.
- Provides multi-dimensional care for assigned patients. Includes patient care in the pre-operative holding area, care in the Endoscopy suite, and care for the patient in the PACU.
- Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in endoscopic procedures.
- Demonstrates ability to understand the unique needs of each age group of the patient population.
- Prepares patients, equipment and room for Endoscopy procedures.
- Assists physicians with Endoscopy procedures per the SGNA guidelines. Specialized knowledge, experience and training is required for endoscope manipulation under the direction of the endoscopist.
- Demonstrates accountability and responsibility for the care of facility assets.
- Assesses the patient's physiological and psychological needs.
- Administers conscious sedation to patients that meet criteria under the direction of the attending physician while adhering to conscious sedation policies and monitors the patient to provide a safe environment during the Endoscopy procedure.
- Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.
- Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.
- Uses good body mechanics.
- Remains calm and function as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations.
- Informs Manager of applicable day-to-day situations.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and comprehend instructions, directions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, physicians and other employees.

Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Currently licensed in the state of Michigan. CPR required, advanced life support certification required. Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities. Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position. SGNA certification preferred. Minimum of one-year experience in Outpatient Endoscopy or surgery.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other skills and abilities: General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.
Physical Demands: Shall be physically able to stand, walk, and maintain varied body motions and positions for long periods of time. Demonstrates manual dexterity.
