Position Summary
A Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to residents as prescribed by a physician and in accordance with nursing practices standards.
General Purpose
The general purpose of the RN position is to administer quality nursing care to residents, assess residents' health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. A RN also assists in the direction and supervision of other nursing personnel and helps promotes a positive physical and psychosocial environment amongst residents and staff.

Position Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Monitors all aspects of resident care, including recording and reporting symptoms, as well as changes in residents' conditions, including physical and emotional status.
- Provides nursing care and administers medication according to physician's orders, care plans, and the Facility's established policies and procedures.
- Performs all charting and record keeping in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Records residents' medical information and vital signs.
- Modifies treatment plan as indicated by recipients' responses and conditions.
- Leads, monitors, assists, coaches, and provides feedback.to other health care team members.
- Communicates with residents, residents' family members, and interdisciplinary team members and management regarding resident status.
- Coordinates and prepares for new admissions, transfers, and discharge of residents.
- Works cooperatively as part of a health care team to assess, plan, implement, and .evaluate patient care plans.
- Understands, complies with, and promotes all rules regarding residents' rights and confidentiality.
- Maintains a safe work environment and exhibits safe work practices in accordance with Facility policies and procedures, including monitoring infection control techniques to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and ensuring that fire and disaster procedures are followed in the case of an emergency.
- Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as adheres to, upholds, and enforces all facility policies and procedures.
- Attends all department meetings, in-service and/or job skills training, and/or educational programs as scheduled.
- Performs additional functions or duties, as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge
- MEDICINE: Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat residents. Includes knowledge
of medical symptoms and treatment alternatives, preventative health care measures, and drug properties and interactions.
- PSYCHOLOGY: Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and effective disorders.
- CUSTOMER AND PERSONAL SERVICE: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer and personal services. This includes, but is not limited to, meeting the quality standards for sound nursing techniques and surgical practices, knowledge of medical treatments, health care sanitation and hygiene, and providing resident satisfaction.
- ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Must have the ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
- THERAPY AND COUNSELING: Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
- MATHEMATICS: Ability to perform basic mathematics for medication disbursement.
- CHEMISTRY: Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical
processes and transformations that they undergo.
- EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Completion of a state-approved RN training program.
- ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Education/Certifications/Experience
- EDUCATION: Associate's Degree is necessary. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- CERTIFICATION: Current RN license is required. Employee must be in good standing with the state. Possession of a current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers CPR certificate is required.
- EXPERIENCE: Sufficient education in order to perform daily tasks with an understanding of the duties involved. Experience as a Charge Nurse or supervisory experience is preferred.
