POSITION TITLE: Coach/Medication Coach (MED Coach)/Direct Support Professional (DSP)
REPORTS TO: Team Leader
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
SALARY: $15.25

The Coach advocates for persons with disabilities to become as independent as possible in integrated employment and home settings in the community. Daily, the successful Coach monitors the health, wellbeing, and safety of clients. The Coach acts as a role model, provides training and support to assist clients to be successful in the lifestyle of their choice. The Coach may be cross trained to work in either employment or home sites with one or more clients. As part of a Service Action Team (SAT), the Coach practices teamwork with co-workers and team members from other county SAT’s and throughout the organization. The Coach assists in the development of volunteers and natural supports to decrease clients’ dependency on paid staff and administers/monitors medications for clients following CLASS LTD policies and standards of care. MED Coach-coordinates physician ordered prescription and over the counter medications for clients as delegated by Health Service Coordinator; documents Medication Administration Records System (MARS) logs for medication administering, changes per physician’s orders reflecting changes in dosage, new medications, and discontinued medication/s. Prior knowledge of medications and reactions desired. PC literacy with Microsoft office is preferred. Must be detail oriented. The Direct Support Professional is a Coach who has successfully completed the College of Direct Support program.
The ability to administer medications to clients through competency-based training and nursing delegation are conditions of employment at CLASS LTD for all Coaches.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
Education: Must be 18 years of age or older. State accredited high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience: Preferred, but not required.
Physical 1) Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., when necessary.
Requirements: 2) Be able to assist with one and two person transfers, if assigned to work with persons requiring that type
of support.
3) Ability to operate Braun lift (van and to maneuver wheelchairs in a van and place in wheel-locks, when
necessary).
4) May be other physical requirements for specific work sites, i.e., extended periods of standing, working in
the heat etc.
Other 1) Maintain a current and valid driver's license of the state of residence and be determined as an "insurable
Requirements: driver" by the automobile insurance carrier for CLASS LTD unless other arrangements can be made in
advance.
2) Comply with all federal, state, and local laws regarding communicable and infectious diseases and
CLASS LTD policies rules and practices regarding immunizations.
3) No records of convictions, administrative findings or history of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children or
adults unable to protect their own interest, and conviction of other crimes, including, but not limited to crimes
against persons, sex crimes, crimes against property, violation of personal rights, public safety, public morals
or any crimes that would be classified as a felony or deemed unacceptable for employment with CLASS LTD.
4) Must be able to work with male and female clients
5) Math calculations needed to complete support log totals.
6) Ability to communicate effectively with others.
7) Read, comprehend, and compose written material as required for such case notes, individual plans, policies
8) Work as an effective team member and facilitator of the team(s) to which assigned.
9) Attain minimum required in-service training each year.
10) May require a commercial driver’s license (CDL) if being hired for a position requiring it. Pre-
employment drug test will be required with the outcome of the results being negative.
11) Comply with CLASS LTD policies, procedures, and instructions.
12) Maintains approved Medication administration competency level by Medical Support Coordinators.
