We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller who is passionate about driving business results. As the Controller, you will be responsible for all accounting activities within the organization, overseeing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, while working closely with leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes. Prepare accurate financial statements and monthly reports. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, including GAAP, as they pertain to the construction industry.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and maintain detailed budgets for ongoing construction projects and the company as a whole. Work closely with managers and leadership to forecast cash flow, profitability, and project costs.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor daily cash flow and work with management to ensure that sufficient funds are available for operational and project needs. Prepare cash flow projections and manage working capital efficiently.
- Billing & Accounts Receivable: Responsible for the invoicing process for construction projects, ensuring that all billings are accurate and timely.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Implement and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting, project costing, and operational processes. Ensure compliance with tax laws, construction industry regulations, and financial reporting standards.
- Audit & Tax Reporting: Prepare and participate in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries. Coordinate the preparation of tax returns and ensure that the company meets all tax obligations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience. Experience managing project accounting, job costing, and financial reporting preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks) and MS Excel. Familiarity with ERP systems and financial management software is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to identify issues, think critically, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
