Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Expert Hardwood Flooring Installer/Refinisher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in both installing new hardwood floors and refinishing existing ones. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver exceptional craftsmanship while meeting project deadlines and maintaining high customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Installation
- Conduct thorough site evaluations including moisture testing, subfloor inspection, and environmental conditions assessment
- Install various types of hardwood flooring including solid hardwood, engineered wood, parquet, and exotic species
- Perform precise measurements and calculate material requirements for each project
- Execute complex installation patterns including herringbone, chevron, and borders
- Install vapor barriers, underlayment, and proper subfloor preparation
- Integrate transitions, thresholds, and trim work seamlessly with existing structures
Refinishing
- Assess floor conditions and determine appropriate refinishing methods
- Operate professional sanding equipment to remove old finishes and level floors
- Perform detail sanding in corners and along edges
- Apply stains, sealers, and finishes with proper technique
- Execute custom staining and color matching
- Repair damaged boards and sections as needed
General Duties
- Maintain and calibrate all tools and equipment
- Ensure proper ventilation and dust control during projects
- Complete detailed project documentation and material usage reports
- Communicate effectively with customers about project timelines and processes
- Mentor junior installers and share technical knowledge
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in hardwood flooring installation and refinishing
- Proven track record of successfully completed high-end residential and/or commercial projects
- Demonstrated expertise with various wood species and installation patterns
- Experience with both traditional and modern installation methods
Technical Skills
- Expert knowledge of wood properties, grain patterns, and moisture content
- Proficiency with manual and power tools specific to hardwood flooring
- Understanding of NWFA (National Wood Flooring Association) guidelines and standards
- Knowledge of current industry trends and installation techniques
- Expertise in mixing and matching stains and finishes
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds
- Capable of standing, kneeling, and bending for extended periods
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Stamina to work full days in various environmental conditions
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- NWFA certification preferred
- Own reliable transportation and basic tools
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends and extended hours as needed
- Strong problem-solving and mathematical skills
