Pay Rate: $40,000
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: Remote (anywhere in the U.S.)
Minimum Qualifications
- 3 years of experience as an English-to-Spanish translator for print and digital publications
- 3 years of homeschooling experience with Classical Conversations
- Passionate about accurately translating classical, Christian curriculum materials from English into Spanish
- Has experience translating curriculum or other highly technical book-length projects
- Easily navigates desktop publishing tools (MS Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat). Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications preferred (InDesign, InCopy)
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills
- Consistently refers to reliable sources and authorities to confirm information.
- Sets priorities and juggles multiple projects capably
- Exhibits dependability and follow-through
- Accepts responsibility for work and for mistakes when made
- Able to travel 2 weeks a year
- Attend annual onsite meeting in person
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent grasp of formal Spanish linguistics, interpreting, and translating. Ideal candidate should have a strong knowledge of the cultures related to both English and Spanish to understand cultural references and nuances.
- Great attention to detail and research skills.
- Regular access to high-speed internet connectivity.
- Able to engage in web-based communications.
Essential Functions
- Work with curriculum developers and international contractors to ensure accurate translation of content throughout the translation of the material
- Work with editors and designers on late-stage proofreading
- Consult multiple reliable sources, both print and electronic, to ensure accurate translation of content
- Pass on research with integrity, distinguishing direct quotations, documenting sources, and verifying that summaries are free from plagiarism
- During the translation process, identify factual information, and work from a standard set of credible sources to confirm all facts, from spelling of names and locations to historical dates and definitions
- Clearly communicate recommended changes in the translation back to the curriculum developer?
- Attend weekly and quarterly online meetings, as well as attend in-person biannual and other required meetings
- Communicate regularly out to the manager with status updates, questions, and blockers
- Communicate to team members. Escalate issues to the manager as needed
- Complete a personal scorecard monthly
- Post daily Teams standup
- Perform other duties as assigned
