Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Chief Academic Officer, this full-time faculty position works collaboratively to provide instruction in psychology and a variety of disciplines for the social sciences or other subject areas. This full-time faculty position must have a commitment to excellence in teaching and a strong ability to engage students in learning at Clatsop Community College.
Reports to: Chief Academic Officer
Essential Duties
- Design and implement instructional activities for psychology, other appropriate social science disciplines, and related instruction in classroom and field settings, using sound instructional delivery techniques that meet the needs of students and supporting agencies (e.g., online, remote, hybrid, day, evening, weekends, and other non-traditional modalities).
- Works with faculty colleagues to develop, implement, evaluate, and periodically review and revise the organizing framework, learning outcomes, and the social science department curriculum.
- Evaluate student achievement of identified learning outcomes and assign grades according to policies.
- Provide student evaluations of teaching and learning effectiveness.
- Provide academic advising to students.
- Participate in determining academic policies and procedures of the institution and other appropriate faculty activities of the College.
- Maintain weekly office hours.
- Maintain professional competence and job qualifications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Earned master’s degree from an accredited college in psychology and one or more of the following subject areas with sufficient preparation (at least twenty-four graduate quarter hours, sixteen semester hours):
- Anthropology
- Sociology
- Economics
- Political Science
- History
- Women and Gender Studies
- Other related subject areas
- At least one year of successful teaching experience in psychology at the secondary or post-secondary level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-secondary teaching experience at a two- or four-year college or university
- Experience in online, hybrid, or other innovative methods of course development and instruction
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
Knowledge
- Knowledge of current issues, trends, and research in psychology and a variety of social science subject areas
- Knowledge of contemporary sources in a variety of social science subject areas and other related fields of study
- Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate to student achievement of outcomes in lower division courses relative to a variety of social sciences or other related courses
Skills
- Interpersonal communication skills to successfully relate to staff, students, and the public
- Excellent oral communication and presentation skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Skill in computer operations including word processing applications, basic online learning system applications and institutional technology systems
- Skill in the development of student assessment methods
- Skill in promoting critical thinking in a variety of educational settings

- Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and organize work to complete assigned duties
