Controller
Summary:
The Controller is responsible for the oversight and accuracy of the General Ledger. Functional responsibilities of this position include, under direction of CFO, financial accounting and reporting, accurate and timely input of journal entries into the General Ledger. This includes entries from other areas of the hospital including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Materials Management, Fixed Assets and Hospice. This position also is a primary resource for the annual audit and cost report compilation. Also ensures accuracy of all financial and statistical information. Responsible for assisting in determining financial objectives, analyzes and reports accounting variances, develops and monitors accounting reports and control mechanisms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Produces monthly financial reports and statements and reviews results with CFO
- Assists with the development of annual operating and capital budget
- Directs cost accounting, budget, and special projects under supervision of CFO
- Compiles data monthly for Medicare cost report and inputs into financial model to create interim estimate
- Reconciles and ensures accuracy of balance sheets. Identifies discrepancies and makes necessary adjustments
- Compile data for third party surveys, audits and cost reports
- Assists CFO in developing and maintaining internal control policies and procedures which safeguard CCMC’s financial assets
- Maintains strictest confidentiality
Education/Experience:
Baccalaureate degree in finance/accounting and two years of accounting experience required; CPA, CMA, and/or HFMA certification preferred. Knowledge of advanced financial accounting, analysis and accounting system design. Knowledge of reimbursement procedures to compile and allocate cost information to specific accounts helpful. Knowledge of computer accounting systems, spreadsheets and applications required. Experience with Cerner EHR and/or Multiview GL/AP/fixed assets preferred.
Supervisory Abilities/Responsibilities:
- Oversee finance staff in the absence of CFO
- Leadership skills to motivate cross-departmental teams’ performance towards excellence and develop team concepts and consensus-building management styles.
