Description

Responsible for receiving, processing, and managing time-life critical emergency, non-emergency, and administrative calls for service; operating the 911 console; receiving, routing and dispersing telephone calls / messages; and providing assistance to the public / agency employees / other county personnel. Incumbent must dispatch calls for service; and notify agencies of robberies and priority events. Duties also include completing assignments / special projects, as directed; completing, updating, submitting required reports / documents / forms; and maintaining control of and follow up on incoming correspondence / action documents.

Duties

  • Answers incoming emergency telephone lines and follows industry and local standards to ensure requests are managed appropriately.
  • Answers incoming non-emergency telephone lines and follows industry and local standards to ensure requests are managed appropriately.
  • Completes, updates, submits required reports / documents / forms; and maintains control of and follows up on incoming correspondence / action documents.
  • Performs all job tasks in accordance with agency policies and regulations, and applicable state / federal laws, policies or procedures.
  • Completes all assignments and / or special projects to specifications as directed and within the specified time frame, budgetary requirements (if applicable), and applicable agency policies.
  • Completes, updates, and submits or forwards all required reports, documents and forms to the appropriate authority / personnel in a timely manner pursuant to applicable state regulations and in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Records, tracks, and follows up on incoming correspondence and action documents, such as subpoenas; to ensure timely response or actions consistent with agency policies and all applicable state statutes.
  • Maintains a proper working knowledge of all emergency procedures related to their post including the physical location and proper use of all emergency equipment if applicable, and will act immediately and in accordance with agency policies / procedures in the event of an emergency.
  • Attends shift briefings or staff meetings as required / directed, recording all pertinent information and directives, and providing superiors and colleagues with job / shift related information.
  • Operates computer paging system in a timely manner consistent with agency policies.
  • Identifies situations which present special or unusual problems and promptly contacts the designated supervisor for assistance as necessary and in accordance with agency policies / procedures.
  • Receives and correctly processes or forwards all wrecker requests and the appropriate corresponding information and maintains the wrecker files in accordance with agency policies.
  • Communicates with other law enforcement agencies and in house personnel to ensure proper coordination of multi-agency efforts, relaying and securing information as requested, maintaining constant contact with established point to point frequencies and performing any other services as required.
  • Tracks, monitors, and documents all deputies and other designated personnel's activities as required during their tour of duty in accordance with agency policies.
  • Completes CAD system entries for service calls in a timely manner and in accordance with agency policies / procedures.
  • Prioritizes calls to correctly discriminate between emergency / non-emergency calls and effectively prioritize calls for service according to agency policy.
  • Operates the 911 computer console ensuring that the appropriate agency responds to the caller or the appropriate personnel are dispatched to the scene in accordance with agency policies.
  • Operates two-way radios according to agency policy and applicable standards to provide and maintain effective communications with agency personnel.
  • Dispatches calls for service to appropriate unit(s) to respond for service based on priority, location, and resource availability; and provides / updates the responding unit and / or supervisors with all available pertinent information consistent with agency policies.
  • Receives, carefully reviews and utilizes the results for the purpose for which it is intended, consistent with agency policies and state / federal rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Notifies surrounding agencies of robberies and priority events in a timely manner consistent with agency policies with the goal of promoting officer safety and enhancing apprehension potential.
  • Responds with appropriate assistance when a deputy / LEO is in a trouble situation, which includes ensuring the immediate, quickest, and safest response to a deputy / LEO in trouble by broadcasting the unit's location, on-viewing the unit, responding the closest units and emergency personnel, responding K-9's as appropriate, and maintaining a count of all units on the scene.
  • Answers and screens calls as appropriate, routing the calls to the proper personnel, or correctly documenting all pertinent information and forwarding same to the designated individual. If required, the member will contact / page the designated individual.
  • Provides accurate information / directions / assistance to the public, agency members, and / or other department personnel in a professional and courteous manner consistent with agency policies; and will not disseminate or discuss information of a confidential nature.
  • Provides support functions for deputies, which includes pinging cell phones, locating information, dialing complainants, contacting / notifying other agencies for assistance, phone messages, paging agency members, assisting deputies with basic CAD commands when their MCTs are not working properly, confirming wanted people / vehicles / items, entering stolen vehicles / items into state and national databases, entering missing people into state and national databases, and building BOLO's.
  • Possesses sufficient knowledge and correctly performs all the designated duties and assumes all responsibilities as required in the absence of the assigned supervisor / superior / co-worker or during periods of work overload in accordance with agency policy, procedures and supervisory direction.
  • Responds to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback of superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Conducts him / herself in an ethical and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics.
  • Follows all leave and attendance related policies / procedures, including, but not limited to arriving on time, working the entire shift, submission of vacation and personnel requests, notification of supervisor regarding absence from work due to illness or untimely incidents and notification of supervisor concerning overtime hours worked.
  • Demonstrates a polite, helpful, courteous, and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.
  • Checks their assigned mailbox, telephone / electronic messages (email) responding to messages in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Operates and cares for equipment to manufacturers' specifications and / or within the specified parameters and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Demonstrates an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and colleagues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period
  • Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible

    Salary is negotiable for full-time positions upon initial hire, if requested, based on verified experience up to step five (5) of the assigned pay grade. Current employee salary changes are determined based on internal methodology. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.

    The Sheriff's Office participates in the Florida Retirement System. Employees have a choice from two plans under the FRS : Pension Plan and Investment Plan. The Sheriff's Office makes a contribution as set by the Florida legislature towards the plan of choice for each employee and the employee makes a contribution of 3%. Deferred Compensation Plans

    Employees may also elect to participate in the County's deferred compensation plan, which offers a choice from two providers : Mass Mutual and Nationwide. Contributions are voluntary by the employee and made on a pre-tax basis. Pre-Tax Benefits
