The Library Associate position involves constant interaction with the public, problem solving for patrons and staff, reader’s advisory, and other related library tasks. This position performs a variety of library clerical tasks designed to implement, maintain and execute Clay County Library practices and procedures. As part of their contact with library patrons, Associates are expected to demonstrate knowledge of library services as well as an interest in fulfilling users’ requests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Library Associate I
- Serves as initial patron point-of-contact providing informational, directional and reference assistance to the public in person, over the phone and via email.
- Provides circulation services using an Integrated Library System (ILS).
- Collects and processes patron payments for fines and fees.
- Retrieves, shelves and shifts library materials.
- Assist patrons in using library equipment.
- Assists in the processing of library materials.
- Assists in creating thematic displays.
- Performs reader’s advisory.
- Completes 24 hours of professional development training per year.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as a regular part of their work week.
- In case of emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) position is required to respond/perform emergency and recovery duties as assigned by the County Manager or designee.
- During an emergency or crisis situation, this position will may be required to be present at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to provide assistance while activated.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Library Associate II
- This position performs all of the duties of a Library Associate I.
- This position differentiates from a Library Associate I.
- Assists with weeding projects.
- Creates flyers for branch programs.
- Processes new library materials for the branch.
- Assists in branch processing of Inter Library Loans.
- Knowledgeable in and clarifies policies and procedures and promotes adherence among patrons by fostering effective communication.
- Preforms minor maintenance on materials.
Library Associate III
- This position performs all of the duties of a Library Associate II.
- This position differentiates from a Library Associate II.
- Uses skills and experience to offer informed opinions on collection content and needed updates.
- Assists with daily scheduling of staff and training new staff.
- Keeps up to date on policy changes.
- Coordinates weeding projects.
- Responsible for keeping branch flyers current.
- Coordinates branch displays.
- Manages branch volunteers.
- Assists with balancing cash drawer and depositing funds.
- Manager on duty in the absence of the Branch Manager.
- Plans, markets, and facilitates recreational, educational, and cultural programs at the branch level.
- Manages additional event programming, as needed.
- Completes 16 hours of additional professional development per year.
Minimum Requirements:
Library Associate I
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Must be able to keyboard accurately.
- 1-2 years of customer service experience.
- Effective oral and written communication.
Library Associate II
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Must be able to keyboard accurately and have a good understanding of Microsoft Suite applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- 1-2 years of customer service experience.
- 1-2 years of library experience.
- Effective oral and written communication.
Library Associate III
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required, 2-year Associate Degree preferred.
- Must be able to keyboard accurately and have a good understanding of Microsoft Suite applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Knowledge of library policies and procedures.
- 3-4 years of customer service experience.
- 1-2 years of library experience.
- Supervisory experience, preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication.

- Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record
