Under the direction of the Grounds Maintenance Field Supervisor, assist in the collection of yard waste and function as general laborers engaged in the cleanup of county roads and locations. Position may require weekend work (Saturday and Sunday) as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect commercial waste, ensuring timely and efficient service
- Maintain cleanliness of waste collection areas and ensure proper disposal of recyclable materials
- Work collaboratively with team members to optimize collection routes and schedules
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and resolving issues related to waste collection
- Adhere to safety procedures to prevent accidents during collection operations
- Document daily collection activities and report any issue to supervisors
- Performs loading, sweeping, raking, digging and other manual laboring tasks
- Collects waste from roadsides and other assigned areas
- Uses appropriate safety equipment and follows safety procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- One year of experience as a laborer, helper, or with refuse collection (Preferred)
- Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

Working Environment and Physical Demands
Frequently positions self to retrieve waste including in positions low to the ground and on steep or uneven surfaces.
This position frequently communicates with supervisors and other staff to safely collect refuse from residences, roadways and other assigned areas. Must be able to accurately convey and perceive information in these situations.
Constantly ascends and descends from the vehicle and in trash collection areas, including in inclement weather when surfaces may be slippery, and moves over natural and uneven surfaces to facilitate waste collection.
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
The position must constantly move up to 25 pounds in all directions, move between 50 - 100 pounds occasionally. Must be able to move objects up to 100 pounds, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.
Regularly works around moving parts and near moving traffic. Regularly works in an outdoor environment which may expose the worker to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, excessive humidity, pollution, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes and airborne particles.
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Kneeling: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Crouching: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Sitting: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
