Classification Summary:

 

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform technical work rendering prompt, efficient and reliable repair service to all communications and electronic equipment within the Cooperative. Primary responsibilities include installing and testing all new communications equipment that may be used between employees or between employees and members for communication purposes. Work also includes helping with the training of all employees in the proper use of vehicle radios, telephone systems, land mobile radio systems, and other communication equipment.

 

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Electronic Technician Supervisor who evaluates performance based on the skills demonstrated while doing technical repair work to equipment.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Circuit Boards.  Troubleshoots, analyzes and repairs electronic imprinted circuit boards. Repairs electronic cards and panels as needed. 
  2. Installs Equipment.  Installs and programs telephones, access security systems, SCADA equipment, SEL communication equipment, 960 MAS, microwave and associated communications equipment, radios, repeaters, data radios, supervisory control, and radio base stations.
  3. System Maintenance.  Performs maintenance to telephones, SCADA, Kantech, SEL, metering equipment, including 960 MAS, microwave, and all associated communications equipment and batteries. Installs, repairs and maintains all two-way radios, radio repeaters, access security systems including cameras. Checks and repairs, if necessary, supervisory control and radio base stations. Troubleshoots WAN router and associated equipment. 
  4. Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Supports AMI communications infrastructure including but not limited to field investigations, troubleshooting and maintenance of Field Access Network (FAN). 
  5. Tools and EquipmentIs responsible for the use, care, and security of tools, test equipment, vehicles and materials utilized. 
  6. Safety. Practices safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and is familiar with and follows those portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual that pertain to the position
  7. Other Essential Duties.  Each employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members, includes responding to and/or assisting in emergency situations.

     

    Other Job Duties:

     

    1. Assists other shops in implementing new electronic equipment and the troubleshooting of various systems.
    2. Provides guidance for various employees in the performance of their duties.
    3. Is aware of all potential equipment and personal injury hazards that may exist in their workplace including the potential for falls, electric flash and/or shock, and reports any unsafe working conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
    4. Complies with all traffic laws and safety rules and safe work practices in the Cooperative Safety Manual and is able to perform CPR and first aid.

     

     

    Minimum Training and Experience:

     

    This position requires an Associate of Science degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major in the electronics field plus four (4) years of related communications equipment technician experience.

     

    Substitution:

     

    Additional related experience may be substituted for education requirements on a year for year basis.

     

    Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

     

    Knowledge of electrical theory and practical application of theoretical concepts.

     

    Ability to use electrical and electronic test equipment and the knowledge to interpret results.

     

    Ability and knowledge to work on energized control circuits without interruption of electrical services.

     

    Ability to recognize and correct errors in equipment design, control circuits, assembly and application.

     

    Ability and knowledge to assume on-call and/or back-up call responsibilities. These assignments will be made at the discretion of the supervisor and considered a part of accepting this position.

     

    This position requires the employee to be available to perform work after normal working hours when necessary.

     

    Employees in this position shall comply with Policy 110., "Residence Required in Districts and Operations Department”.
