Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Operations to oversee all aspects of our cannabis trimming, finished goods production and inventory control at our Perris, CA facilities. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing the entire production process, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining product quality, productivity, and leading our dynamic production teams.

The primary role of the Director of Operations is to oversee all processes associated with bucking, trimming, finished goods flower, pre roll and vape production, and inventory control. This position works closely with cultivation operations to ensure the highest quality flower is being produced into finished goods, sales to ensure we are meeting the demand of the customers, and logistics to ensure products are being made available on time to meet customer needs. The goal is to produce the highest quality products, with the lowest cost of production, exceeding the needs of our retail customers and consumers.

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Post Harvest Oversight:

      • Manage the dry and cure process to ensure quality while controlling bucking cost
      • Manage team of up to 60 trimmers along with automation
      • Maintain flower trimming and sorting machines and production efficiencies, problem solving machine errors and outages.
      • Ensure harvests are being trimmed in the correct priorities by strain to meet production and sales needs
      • Trim portions of crop that are being utilized for pre rolls in the most efficient way possible.

  • Production and Quality Control Oversight:

      • Manage the end-to-end production process, from material inputs and refinement to formulation and packaging for all flower, pre roll and vape cartridge SKUs.
      • Manage labor and production demand planning to achieve:
        • Achieve 98% days in stock for all manufactured SKUs including pre rolls and vapes
        • Work with cultivation and sales on demand planning for flower SKUs to ensure 98% days in stock for all flower SKUs
      • Guarantee adherence to state regulations in all production activities.
      • Maintain flower and pre roll manufacturing machines and production efficiencies, problem solving machine errors and outages.
      • Manage labor resources to efficiently keep production lines at optimization.
      • Sales menu support: Keeping inside and outside sales team abreast of menu updates, and restock schedule.
      • Implement robust quality control measures to ensure product consistency and purity.
      • Collaborate closely with the production team supervisors to address any quality concerns promptly.

  • Inventory Control:

      • Manage inventory control and material handling teams responsible for post harvest through finished goods
      • Cycle counting accuracy and monthly physical inventory or raw materials and finished goods
      • Compliance with all state regulations

  • Team Leadership:

      • Lead and train the production teams, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
      • Nurture a collaborative and supportive work environment for optimal team performance.
      • Develop performance KPIs across all production lines, ensuring team adherence.
      • Process and workflow standardization development & improvement
      • Oversight, training, and continuous development of department managers, supervisors and leads.

  • Innovation and Efficiency:

    • Monitor and if needed integrate cutting-edge technologies and methods to enhance production efficiency and elevate product quality.
    • Stay informed about industry trends to drive continuous improvement in production processes.
    • Work closely with our cultivation and sales departments to meet market demands and maintain optimal lean inventory levels.
    • Develop and manage production budgets, schedules, and timelines for streamlined operations.
    • Identify cost savings opportunities, through streamlining and automation.
    • Utilize Lean Manufacturing tactics including Six Sigma to identify, scope and implement processes, technologies, and systems to continuously improve product quality as well as operational effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Develop and implement strategies to reduce costs including but not limited to direct and indirect labor, product materials and capital investments by improving workflow, achievement of internal project dates and improving efficiency and effectiveness of the costs of production in facilities, engineering, equipment, operations, inventory levels and holding costs.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, business management, or related fields.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience managing production in food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, or cannabis products or a related industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of product production processes ( if knowledge is in cannabis pre roll and or flower production).
  • Familiarity with cannabis industry regulatory requirements and best practices /standards in ( cannabis) product manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in production management and planning software / tools.
    • ERP, Google Sheets, Excel
  • Experience managing at least a team of 50 (production workers & supervisors).
  • Process development, improvement, and deployment.
  • Some project management.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass all required background checks
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the Cannabis industry
  • Must possess valid driver's license
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Will be required to be on-call and to respond to emergency situations at any time. This may include scheduling issues, potentially covering a vacant shift, facility issues and/ or human resources requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Computer and Microsoft and Google Suite skills.
  • Bilingual (English and some Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to work longer hours during busy seasons (Weekends included).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Strong leadership, teambuilding, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Maintain worker protection standards, promoting a safe work environment.
  • Effective time management with the ability to balance floor and office time.

Working Conditions:

  • The person in this position may be exposed to dust, kief, cleaning chemicals and fumes. Although systems are in place to remove these byproducts, there is still exposure to some degree.
  • Frequently works in rooms with bright light where eye protection is needed.
  • Frequently works in rooms with moderate heat and humidity.
  • The person in this position is constantly exposed to moderate background noise due to environmental systems, equipment, and fans.

Physical Demands:

  • Work indoors and outdoors, in seasonal temperatures and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Continuously walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel as well as reaching overhead, and from side to side for long periods of time.
  • Wear respirators and other PPE for a long period of time.
