Position Summary: The Area Manager is responsible to manage and direct the daily activities and resources assigned production departments. The Area Manager position is crucial to create a world class production environment on the 4 cornerstones of safety, quality, connection, and housekeeping.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Direct supervisor of Department Managers.
- Train Department Managers to ensure best practices for each department is followed
- Monitors Department Managers to meet product specifications and production targets
- Select, evaluate, & retain Department Managers.
- Coach, correct and counsel Department Managers. Utilize the progressive discipline documentation system appropriately.
- Use data and root cause analysis to problem solve.
- Hold Department Managers accountable that violate the company’s safety policy
- Supervise new hire onboarding and development experience following the job skills training program including utilizing training material, tracking their development in the Responsibility Matrix and providing real-time feedback.
- Coach Department Managers to ensure defects are corrected by the root Team Member to teach & eliminate repeat occurrences
- Supervise and train Department Managers ISO14001 initiatives (recycling program)
- Resolves production problems with Department Managers and answers workers' questions about processes, methods, or equipment
- Enforce Clayton’s safety culture by adhering to and enforcing the safety stop audit program.
- Participate in Safety training meetings as requested for continuous education on new guidelines
- Audit tool and equipment safety inspection for all departments
- Ensure clean department(s) before, during and after work using 5 min clean-ups. Don’t leave until team has the area “Clayton Clean”.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
- 1-2 years of experience managing a team
- Previous construction experience strongly preferred
- Experience in manufactured housing is greatly desired
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills at all levels
- Microsoft Word, Excel, as well as basic math skills
- Must be detail-oriented and can multi-task effectively
- Ability to read and understand home building specifications greatly desired
- Demonstrated adherence to safety protocols
- Ability to adapt quickly and make sound decisions in a changing, fast-paced work environment
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work may require stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, and / or pulling.
- Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
- Work environment is not temperature controlled and may result in exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Work primarily involves sitting / standing, up to 4 hours at a time.
