What are the responsibilities and job description for the PARALEGAL - CENTRAL SERVICES position at Clayton County Government?
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform paraprofessional work in the support of the Staff Attorney for Central Services. Requiring a broad knowledge of the laws of Georgia, duties include research of complicated legal issues, preparation of legal documents, organization of evidence, regular contact with attorneys, department heads, and employees of Clayton County, and occasional executive secretarial and administrative tasks. Duties are performed under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Under the supervision of the Central Services’ Staff Attorney the Central Services’ Paralegal will support Central Services on all legal matters including but not limited to:
Assembles and organizes resource materials for use by attorneys.
Reviews files for attorney signatures and attention.
Drafting amendments to contracts for the purchase of goods or services such as equipment, software, professional services, or other products.
Placing legal correspondence drafts in final format.
Assist with updating Contract templates, legal forms, and documents.
Tracking the number of contracts, amendments, and legal correspondence drafted monthly.
Assist with monitoring local and state legislation related to procurement.
Drafting & sending responses for Open Record Requests (ORRs) after review by Staff Attorney and tracking receipt and progress of Open Records Requests
Attending meetings with vendors and/or user departments as needed.
Assist in preparing presentations for internal training/workshops conducted by the Central Services Staff Attorney.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; certification as a paralegal or legal assistant; supplemented by five (5) years experience as a paralegal. Competence in on-line computer legal research, word processing, and legal office procedures. Must have a substantial knowledge of legal procedures and resources of local government and its relationship to other local, state, and federal agencies; ability to analyze complicated facts and legal issues and make logical legal-based recommendations to other professionals; ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships including, but not limited to, County Officials, County employees, and attorneys; extensive knowledge of legal research techniques and computer related technology; ability to maintain ethical and confidentiality standards in a legal environment. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12- 20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
