Purpose of Classification
Provides recreation and leisure activities to the population of Clayton County. Work involves the coordination of all general activities and events to meet the recreational needs of citizens of all ages in a designated area of the county. The incumbent acts in both an administrative and functional capacity and trains others in the division and in directly working with participants in a designated area of the county.
Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Plans and directs an expanding and flexible program of activities for all segments, groups, ages, and interest levels for a designated area of the county; assists in coordinating regularly scheduled events; determines materials, supplies, and/or staff instructors needed for the General Program Division in the specified area.
Recommends the purchase of proper supplies and equipment for program operation; maintains inventories of materials, equipment, and supplies.
Schedules and directs activities for the General Program Division. Interviews, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; interviews and hires staff.
Prepares and/or directs the preparation of special reports, such as activity analyses, brochures, etc; prepares and submits payroll and all instructor contracts for review; prepares area budget. Inspects equipment and facilities for security and safety. Serves public relations function; prepares and distributes flyers; writes news releases and cable advertisements for designated area.
For the General Recreation Program Division, promotes programs and services and generates interest and participation in designated area.
Solicits donations and supports for program from citizens and businesses in designated area.
Attends meetings and training sessions.
Performs a variety of administrative duties associated with coordinating general recreation programs to include: preparing reports for programs, participation records, status of projects, and summaries of services, etc.; attends meting and coordinates activity with supervisor, other staff, and county officials.
Obtains appropriate medical and/or emergency care in the events that a participant becomes ill or is injured.
Additional Functions Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training that includes recreational and athletic programming; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have the ability to operate a personal computer with basic word processing skills. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, textures, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, humidity, temperature extremes, or traffic hazards.
