POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for overseeing students and exposing to fundamental food preparation terms, concepts, and methods in Culinary Arts where laboratory practice will parallel class work. Fundamental techniques, skills, and terminology must be covered and mastered with an emphasis on basic kitchen and dining room safety, sanitation, equipment maintenance and operation procedures. As the student progress, the instructor is responsible for an advanced and rigorous in-depth course designed for the student who is continuing in the Culinary Arts Pathway and wishes to continue their education at the postsecondary level or enter the food-service industry as a proficient and well-rounded individual. Strong importance is given to refining hands-on production of the classic fundamentals in the commercial kitchen. Knowledge and skills in will be enhanced by this candidate through experiences that simulate the Culinary Arts industry and school-based and work-based learning opportunities for students. All state standards CTAE, Academic and CTSO standards are evident in the daily teaching environment. This position reports to the School Principal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructs students, using various teaching methods, such as lecture, audiovisual aids, demonstration and other materials to supplement presentations relative to specific content field.
Assigns lessons and corrects homework; administers tests to evaluate students’ progress, record results and issue reports to inform parents of progress. Maintains discipline in classroom. Supervises behavior outside the classroom (i.e., halls, bus, lunch/cafeteria, rest room duty).
Prepares course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
Conducts parent/teacher conferences to review student’s progress, performance, and behavior problems. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
All other duties as assigned, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Hold an associate’s degree or higher from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution in Culinary Arts; or a GaPSC-determined equivalent. GaPSC Rule 505.3-.63
states field-specific content standards for approving endorsement programs that prepare individuals to teach culinary arts in grades 6-12 and supplements requirements in GaPSC Rule 505-3-.01, REQUIREMENTS AND STANDARDS FOR APPROVING EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROVIDERS AND EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS.
Two (2) years teaching experience preferred.
Holds an associate’s degree or higher from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
