POSITION SUMMARY:
Supports Facilities Services Buildings Department. Knowledgeable in general hand and power tool identification and operation. Demonstrates basic understanding of maintenance techniques and practices. This position reports to the Buildings Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists Maintenance Technician/Supervisor with a variety of general repairs on all buildings within the district including, but not limited to, masonry, carpentry, locksmith, window glazer, roofing, fence, flooring, cabinetry, and painting.
Operates different equipment relevant to repairs and installations, including tools such as jack hammers, electric saws, drills, planers, joiners, table saws, bench grinders, ladders, lifts, scaffolding, etc.
Drives van or truck with trailer to work sites as needed to perform repairs and installations throughout the district; maintains the proper parts inventory on the district vehicle to meet assigned maintenance work orders; restocks supplies and tools in vehicle; performs daily vehicle safety check.
Assists with District and emergency and/or general assignments as operationally necessary.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED required.
Buildings experience preferred.
Makes repair decisions which impact the schools/buildings within the district.
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance of Buildings Supervisor, Mechanic III, and Mechanic IV.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of importance.
Familiarity with computer applications preferred
Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of the department. Familiarity and knowledge of computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Google Suite).
Variable work environment – Facilities Services Complex, school grounds, and all buildings; subjected to a wide range of weather conditions and temperatures.
Provides periodic on-call support after normal work hours (twenty-four [24] hours a day, seven [7] days a week) to alleviate emergency situations.
Walking, standing, kneeling, driving for eight (8) hours per day; must be able to climb a thirty (30) foot ladder and negotiate stairs.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one-hundred (100) pounds occasionally.
Before being extended an offer of employment, selected candidates will be notified by the district to undergo the required physical examination for this position.
NOTE: This is a grade 18, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4.
