Overview
The Entry-Level Receiving Chemist plays a crucial role in waste management operations by ensuring the efficient processing and coding of lab pack containers and drums. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying material counts, conducting initial sampling, and maintaining accurate tracking of materials using barcoding systems, all while ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain compliance with 49 CFR, 40 CFR, and facility permits to ensure safe operations.
Lab Pack Management
Receive and code lab pack containers for safe disposal.Repack or consolidate containers to optimize for final disposal.Oversee inventory of reactive materials and cylinders.Utilize proprietary software for lab pack operations, including bulking and processing.Drum Management
Sample incoming drums and perform basic analyses.Calibrate and operate laboratory instrumentation accurately.Manage drum storage and ensure adherence to QA / QC guidelines.Address any discrepancies found in drum counts or shipments.Waste Shipping Operations
Prepare and ship drum and bulk waste to designated disposal locations.Work collaboratively with logistics for proper staging and labeling of shipments.Inventory and Safety Management
Maintain and manage supply inventory efficiently.Foster a safe workplace in line with OSHA regulations.Training and Team Support
Mentor and assist other team members, including Receiving Technicians.Additional Duties
Perform any other tasks as needed for business needs.Qualifications
Education :
Minimum of 2 years of college or specialized training in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related fields.Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.Experience :
0-3 years of relevant experience preferred.Certifications / Licenses :
24-hour OSHA training (Required)Forklift training (Required)RCRA / DOT training (Required)Skills :
Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability skills.Solid understanding of chemistry and chemical testing methods.Proficiency with Windows-based software and waste analysis protocols.Preferred experience in receiving, shipping, or lab pack processes.Physical Requirements :
Medium work : Frequently lift / carry up to 25 lbs; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.Engage in frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing activities.Manual dexterity for grasping and precise manipulation of materials.Visual acuity to discern small objects and color differences.Other Requirements :
Must be able to wear required PPE, including respirators.Ability to climb ladders, operate forklifts, and demonstrate physical stamina (e.g., perform push-ups or knee squats).Travel Requirement : Less than 10%
